Millward named Cowboys deputy

CONTROVERSIAL coach Ian Millward will be North Queensland mentor Graham Murray's deputy from 2007 after signing a two-year deal.
The Australian returns from a successful stint in the English Super League to replace Cowboys assistant Neil Henry, who takes over Canberra's head coach reins next season. Millward is believed to have knocked back offers from several NRL and Super League clubs to link with Murray.
The son of former Illawarra Steelers boss Bob Millward enjoyed a stellar five season run with English heavyweight St Helens from 2001.
He steered the Saints to two Super League titles, two Challenge Cup wins and a World Club Challenge title.
But an outspoken Millward controversially left after falling out with the Saints hierarchy and joined their arch rival Wigan early this season.
However, Millward was dumped after nine games following Wigan's worst start to a season in 20 years.
Millward still enjoyed a high profile in England, where he worked as a TV commentator.
"I achieved all of my goals and dreams in the UK and have always had a desire to return to the National Rugby League in Australia," Millward said.
"The age and quality of the Cowboys players along with the profile of the club were big factors in settling with the North Queensland Cowboys."
