Mon 31st October, 12:00PM
A A

St George Illawarra Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways provides an update on recruitment and retention ahead of the upcoming new pre-season.

Millward discusses the reasoning behind the recent signing of prop Paul Vaughan who agreed to terms on a three-year contract from the Canberra Raiders.

Furthermore, Millward provides an update on contract negotiations with local Hurstville United junior Luciano Leilua as well as other players who are off contract at the end of 2017.

Skirted around some of the questions

Agreed. Millward is a decent talker, his comments on some of the players and retention so far seem promising, but he definitely threw some smoke and mirrors up when asked about Leilua.
Either he's sick of being asked about it or he's not sure what's going to happen. A month or so ago they were confident of retaining him, now it's just the "negotiations are happening".
The comment he made about Leilua not signing with any NRL club yet concerned me as well. That tells me there's strong competition for him.

Not confident that he will stick around , he is at our club at the moment and you would think that is an advantage to keep him here .

Interpretation on what he said. Talks about off contract players needing to prove they want to play for the dragons, what about the coach and CEO are they in it for the right reasons. Will these players play for the coach or has he or more to the point has lost the dressing room. The last point to mention in regards to signing players eg a half back. Do we have the ability to attract talent to the club. Based on the current coach and the losing environment he has created NO.

It's funny that they are holding players to a strict performance clause before they start negotiations, and yet the coach, board and CEO can not perform and still be guaranteed to maintain their positions.

Obviously more bullshit form the people who dribble the shit in press conferences (Super Coach) or to us the supporters that the club have (from our amazing board and CEO) who seem to have no idea that we are in a new century and not the golden era they are still clinging to.
If we went on a performance base then the last to numskulls should have been terminated after the first year...or 2 at best.
The comedy just continues with our lot. That's the pot calling the kettle black isn't it?

Board, CEO and coach should also be put on performance based contracts just like every other normal business in the year 2016.

If an Executive cannot meet their set goals they are replaced in the real world.

Not so in Nepotismland.
