Missing thread.

I deleted the thread! I have nothing against Union fans coming in here and discussing certain matters. I felt that Marcus' thread had nowhere else to go, he wasn't interested in our opinions, and since this is mainly a RL forum, I took it upon myself to delete it.

GavBT, I still don't think my thread should have been deleted. I brought up some valid facts and I know it touched a nerve with may of the members here - but it still shouldn't have been deleted. Most of the points I brought up are things thatis effecting League if you like it or not. Turning a blind eye to them and ignoring the facts will only see League spiral to a lonely state.

Personally I'd liked to have seen the post remain.........it seemed to me that it had the potential to become our "bedding the whore" thread.

Anyway - so long as you're prepared to put put up your hand and explain why I've no real problem.........it's not as if most of the points are not mentionedon several others threads here!

ozbash, I still don't think its right. In no way was I being obnoxious, or even making cheap shots at people. People kept calling me a "toff" and all kinds of crap, but that stuff doesn't affect me. I believe I wasmaking valid points, and some of the discussions we had were really great. Its GavBT's choice if he wants to delete it or not and I can respect that, but I still don't think its right. I too should be allowed to have my say and be treated fairly like all the other members.

Marcus:
I saw what was happening in that thread. The argument became circular and you were diverting subjects to keep the attention focussed on you.
To coin a term, you were kicking the corpse.
When a post is deleted it's not done lightly and I know Gav gave it some thought.
I don't like seeing posts deleted but on this occasion, I agree with Gav 100%.
So you know now, OK? Why keep going on about it?

I'm not obliged to say anymore, but perhaps I made a slight error of judgement when deleting the thread. Marcus, you are right in stating you were not abusive.....although I agree with Willow, in that you seem more interested in keeping the attention focused on yourself, but that is still not a crime. A post that becomes pointless doesn't mean it is deserving of a deletion.

Really pleased you wrote that Gav.There area fewother posts here which, to some at least, mayappear to be somewhatpointlessyet have not been deleted so I don't see that as being a valid reason.

While I totally disagreed with Marcus points and his penchant for that non event gameIwas nonetheless following the debate with interest. Ialsoacknowledge some degree of apprehensionon finding that it had mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night. Not so much for the thread itself but deleting threads that don't suitis after all at the very heart of what our beloved founder Legend complained so bitterly about at the old place. I was 100% behind him back then and trusted his assurances it wouldn't happen here. I also recall both ozbash and Willow having a bit to say on that subject. Now you guys cantell me to go get nicked if you like, as that is your perogative as managers and I accept that, but unless threads are abusive or are in some way offensive I don't see whythey should be deleted. If however you feel I have this wrong or have spoken out of turn then just let me know.

That being said Gav youracknowledgement of maybe acting in haste is greatly appreciated and very reassuringand personally I thank you for it.

Rasputin, as I said it was an error to delete the thread. I realise thatI should only delete a thread if I am 100% sure that it's the right thing to do, that it's in the best interests of the community and or any individual member.....differences of opinion don't fall into that category.

I know I abused my position, and I don't mind admitting it.

Thanks Gav but pleased be assured I wasn't suggesting you abused your position, I was merely talking about the principle of it. I only said anything at allbecause it would have been totally hypocritical of me not to considering thatI had a fair bit to say about the matter in the other forums every time a manager deleted a thread he didn't like. No offence meant Gav.

BTW, I just went on to that rugby forum MFC's been blasting away at and saw a thread there where someone suggested to his compatriots that they all hit this forum in retribution. I guess that's where marcus and his posts fit in.

No problems Rasputin and no offence taken! I never thought you were suggesting that I had abused my position. As managers I suppose we could choose to ignore the views of the community, but that would be a mistake IMO, and would soon lead to a breakdown in trust.

On to the rah rah's hitting our forum, I guess we should brace ourselves!

Doesn't it just piss you off when you forget your Hotmail password ?
Marcus's thread should not have been deleted.
It was a thread which was started purely based on a former Rugby League supporter who had found sizeable gaps in the game as it currently stands. Whether you believe he was a former League supporter or not, is not the question. All this person was doing was putting his views and opinions across, in search of a mature and constructive arguement on this Forum.
That's exactly what he got.
There was practically no foul language used throughout the entire thread, and it never lost it's spark or quality, even up until the thread was terminated. It was a pleasure to read many Member's posts, and quite frankly, a lot of the postings were very informative, as far as facts and figures about the game were concerned.
A thread that comes to a stalemate, or takes an uneccessary turn, in one persons eye, is perfectly allright in anothers.
The thread was FAR from being worthy of deletion, and it was more than refreshing to read incomparisonto some of the dribble that exists at the other Forum/Community.
I don't think it's asking for too much if a Moderator was to consult with at least one other Moderator, on what appropriate action to take regarding deletions (threads)and terminations (members) ifand when the situationwas to arise.
Two heads are alwaysbetter than one ..... well in some situations anyway.
I'm not attacking you GavBT, but I believe in this instance you were out of line ..... big time.

Stude, I know full well I was out of line, made a cock up, a clanger, an error of judgement, but at least you know I waswas responsible...... and I will consult with someone else the next time, that's if I have another next time!

No worries bud. At least you were man enough to admit an error of judgement. Well done bud.
