Mod league

Hi, I am coaching a primary school league team. We mainly play 7 a side gala days and 13 a side knockout comps. The kids do not get regular weekend footy. I have coached the boys for several years and we have done alright. I am always trying to improve my coaching and was after tactics for mod league that other coaches have found successful. We sometimes get a bit stuck and become easy pickings when we just go dummyhalf, pivot runner. Do any of you use any successful set plays at this level. I am not trying to turn the kids into an nrl team just simple little plays to increase the skills. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers guru

Just keep working on catching and passing. Something that I found helpful is getting your dummy half to run from there and pass to the first receiver. It gets everyone moving and not just passing flat footed.

The need to run wider and pick up the first receiver though so as not to get caught.

When you play touch make sure that they cannot score a try unless the ball has been passed 4 times and anyone caught before pass 3 turns it over to the other side. teach them early to look for other players and share the ball.

I see what you're saying, but the problem you have with that is you bring the defensive line into play immediately, and not when the first receiver catches the pass as it normally would be if the dummy half stood still.
