.......Because it's obviously open season on a player's head. There must have been at least 10 cases this year where a player has attacked the head of another player and got off, with the latest case happening between Collingwood and Carlton.

Doe's the media in Sydney and Brisbane highlight the attitude of the AFL to head-high contact. I hope so as I couldnt imagine parents wanting there children playing a game where the head isnt sacrosant.

Its fast, its noisy, its a chicks game and it is by far the clumsiest game in the world.

Where else do you get a point for missing goal.

It is an accident waiting to happen the way their rules allow for some of the crap in their game (knees to the back, players being hit in the air, etc) no wonder it is rated as the most injury prone sport in Australia.

Can't deny the athletes are fit - but it is like basketball, if you are not of a physical style (must be a minimum of 185 cm) you cannot make it. In league anyone can play - and the touch footy alternative is just as good.

What will be interesting is when the law suits start happening - the AFL player with the ruptered kidney will wake up with 6 lawyers sitting on the end of the bed. Like McCraken in the NRL, he will eventually sue the AFL, the opposing team the players involved etc.

As a sport they have never been stretched by the Law as the NRL have, eg. McCracken, Tutty, Super League, etc. But where there's money there is a lawyer waiting to take it away.

The most embarrassing thing about AFL is explaining it to the rest of the world - quote to me by a guy in Boston "That is one weird gay sport" - that about sums it up.

Curling...

...I really feel for that poor Bastard tbh. The sport doesn't seem to care about players using Knees and Elbows as much as they should...

That's a bit rich coming from a citizen of a country that revolves around the wankfest that is the NFL.

A good sport ruined by too much glitz and fartarsing around.

In my experience foreigners all seem to think australian football is a ridiculously tough sport.

I put it down to them
a: only having seen soccer before
b: only having seen gridiron (where they wear a suit of armour)
c: seeing snippets of rugby (either) and aussie rules and not realising theyre different sports - so thinking its got full on tackles with the unstructured play of AFL

also, i don't care how wierd or gay AFL is
if some american called anything australian wierd and gay to me, they'd be in trouble

No, they think AFL is like that because there is all the girly push and shove that goes on off the ball. When was the last time someone threw a proper punch in it and not a 'jumper punch'? Whatever the f*ck that is...

Well, to be fair, AR does allow a certain amount of cheap shots i.e. where one can can attack a player not in possession and often unaware/unprepared for the collision. Of course, this makes it look a lot "harder" than it is.

BTW, Noa, you spelled your name wrong :p

No, I spelled it phonetically so the youngsters of today say my name properly.

And I'm proud to say I've lived in Melbourne for 4 years and have not watched one game on live or on tv. So there:p .

AFL isn't a national sport champ. And it's only fools like you that think it is.

As for the legitimate cowardice in Australian Rules Football.... Might explain why it's only popular in the southern states of Australia, oh and the WHOLE of Nauru.

AFL fan insults.

It's like Lepers calling people without Leprosy names.

The problem is that you and I both know Rugby League is a lot more than that and is the typical belief of a head-in-the-sand Victorian.

The argument here is that the AFL are incredibly soft on attacks on the head and that is irrefutable.

And using your analogy about to grown men going toe-to-toe is significant as whats braver. Looking some-one in the eye and belting them or the equivalent to a king-hitting some-one when there not looking, the AFL bump.

Saw Brodie "the cat woman basher" holland get an oscar nomination on the weekend highlights after some Carlton player decked him....he went down like a zeppelin. the pnch didn't even look hard and he went down holding his face!

the guy can punch a woman in the head over a taxi but can't take a jumper punch to the face from an opposittion player..... go figure!

Theres a video on YouTube highlighting a heap of huge NRL hits/tackles etc. and there are a lot of comments from idiot yanks saying how "awesome that Aussie Rules" game is.

NRL/Yawnion/AFL are the same sport as far as theyre concerned.
