Thought I was hearing things when they mentioned this on the radio this morning.

Now confirmed, I had a good laugh.:lol:

Barring injury, its not going to happen.

JOSH Dugan has thrown down the gauntlet to NSW fullback Jarryd Hayne by declaring he wants the Blues No. 1 jersey this year.

Dugan was named as a shadow player for Origin II last year after a stunning performance in his debut for Country. The 20-year-old now believes he's ready to deliver for the Blues at fullback.

After three days with Ricky Stuart's 51-man Blues In Waiting squad, Dugan told The Daily Telegraph he was desperate to play Origin. "I feel like I'm the sort of player who, when a big game comes up, I rise for the occasion," he said.

"I've always found I do that in grand finals in younger grades. I don't let it get to me and try to rise to that level."

The Canberra custodian, who has added 4kg to his lanky 91kg frame, said the Raiders were ready to kick on after their finals campaign last year and hailed the arrival of former Manly halfback Matt Orford.

This made me LOL.... what was Sticky teaching them?? "Hey guys, if u won a Semi Final in SG Ball you'll be a gun at Origin"

I actually like Dugan's effort and positional play... but in terms of skill... barring injury the only way Dugan would get the NSW number 1 would be if the selectors realised Hayne was a better prospect in the halves than our other choices

i wouldn't really be laughing about this. Remember NSW had Kurt Gidley as fullback over Hayne, and Dugan is a hell of a lot better than him. They may see it that they don't lose much in the fullback spot by having Dugan there over Hayne but gain a big advantage on one wing with Hayne there over whoever else there is to choose from

Giddy only played fullback because they couldn't find any other spot for him

Jarryd is only going to get better as fullback - Dugan may as well take a ticket. Kangaroo No.1 is not outside of the realms for Jarryd IMO, with natural improvement.

tbh for once there's also real hot competition for the wing spots with Gordon, Morris, Uate etc, I don't know that NSW can do what QLD did with Slater and Boyd.

I'd go:

1. Hayne
2. Gordon
3. Gasnier
4. Jennings
5. Uate

But in saying that, you could easily slot Dugan in on one of those wing spots or Lyon into the centres and it would still be a good side. I don't think Stewart will push for a spot this year, given the injuries and recovery, but next year he should be in contention. Minichiello could even get a call up if Hayne is injured.

Agreed. We know Hayne can play wing at origin level - and extremely well. Can Dugan play wing? Maybe they could swap around.

Hayne played well in his first game for the blues at fullback, what NSW need to do is work on a solid core that will play for a few years to come. IMO that is Hayne, Carney, Pearce and Farah at this point in time and once they build an understand of each others games it will be hard for anyone to dislodge them.

Perfect example is QLD have stuck with Slater and Thurston even when at times Prince, Cronk and Boyd have been in better from.

I don't know what's worth giggling about. Dugan is a gun. Hayne can do anything, but in positional play Dugan is probably a much better fullback. Another case of the Tele making an article out of nothing... where did Dugan say he wanted the number 1 jersey in his quotes? All he said was he if he were selected for origin he would rise to the occasion. Worth a giggle is it?
