More Sevens Confusion?

After the dramas of the past couple of weeks determining who was in or not and then the confusion of poor press releases, I am wondering what is happening.

If you go to the NRL website and click on the Sevens info box on the right, you get a pop up screen. Among the info is this

The 15 NRL sides will be joined by 8 international sides (Fiji, Tonga, PNG, Samoa, Lebanon, Russia, France and NZ Residents), a British Super League club side (Widnes Vikings) and a Wildcard qualifier (determined from the Wildcard Qualifier Tournament)

That adds up to 25 (assuming there is one qualifier as the release says "a Wildcard qualifier".

So what happened? Is RSA missing? Have they withdrawn? Will there be two wildcards? Has there been another publicity stuff up?

Hmmm strange,

I'll go chase this up and should be able to give you confirmation sometime late Monday afternoon.

It stands to reason that there will be two qualifiers going through from St.Mary's. There was a suggestion of that in an early article and I tend to believe that is how things will pan out, simply because South African RL is famous for messing people about and have caused this scenario by being non commital.

You can't exactly rely on NRL.com - the site just shows how the organisation act in everything else they do - incompetent, shortsighted and idiotic.

BB is correct, South Africa have sorta just vanished atm.

So it will be 2 qualifer spots.

In that case.... who would everyone like to see go through? My personal choices are Japan and the Koories, although I'll be just as happy with any of the permutations coming through.

What is the story with RSA. One minute they play a comp, the next they vanish off the face of the earth. And we think there are problems with the the voice of our administrators.

If RL is to establish itself in RSA (and I have no dsoubt it could) they need to stop this and other characteristic half-arse behaviour.
