MOREE Rugby League Club is in the hands of an administrator, players haven't been paid their dues and there must be grave doubt that the Moree Boars' football team will get off the ground in 2004.
The Moree Rugby League Club was placed in the hands of administrator Alan Nicholls of Tamworth
yesterday.
Yesterday David Robertson spoke on behalf of Nicholls and confirmed what had occurred.
"As of today the board of directors deemed that they were unable to keep trading and have appointed an administrator who is David Nicholls," Robertson said yesterday.
Robertson said the administrator was "in the process of doing all the usual things when an administrator is appointed".
He said while it was too early to ascertain the financial position of the club, an investigation of company affairs to determine what may have caused the trading problems would take place.
But where does this leave the numerous Moree Boar players who have not been paid their dues?
"They (the players) are creditors but we are not aware who all of them are," Robertson said.
The Moree Rugby League Club, the trading organisation, was run by a separate committee to the Moree Rugby League Football Club which looked after the football.
Former Moree Rugby League Club director Bill Hitchins is on the Moree Rugby League Football Club
committee.
The running of the football club is separate to the running of the leagues club and Hitchins said he was still confident the football club would exist in 2004.
He said in early January a meeting would be held to determine a committee for next year.
"We are looking for people who are genuinely interested in league and we are looking for as many as we can," he said.
Players may be scarcer on the ground.
The Leader was told by some Moree Boar players yesterday that they would not be playing with the club ever again.
One of those is Trevor Tighe who played with Warialda this season in Group 19 and also captain-coached the Moree Boomerangs at the NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout Carnival.
Tighe said he had not been paid money owed to him since the 2002 season when he was a vital member of the Boar premiership-winning side.
"They won't see me back there," Tighe said.
"They owe me quite a bit of money actually but each time I've rung Bill Hitchins about it he's said I have to wait a couple of weeks and that's been going on for a while
"I haven't been paid at all. It's bad what has happened to the club but if you don't pay your dues then you deserve what you get. The administration at the club has just been poor."
Tighe said he had spoken to a number of Moree players who indicated they would be playing in Goondiwindi with coach Mal Peckham next season since the Boomerangs had been voted against by Group 4 clubs.
