Morris vs Riddell - Stats

Morris made 42 tackles and 17 hitups.
We just paid over 300k on a player that made 14 tackles and 8 hitups,
Riddell. We have wasted a large amount of our cap on a position we're
already well covered in. Surely we could have used this money to entice Joel Monaghan, Morrison and Tate.

I'm excited about buying Ridell, because it might have meant we would gain one of the boom halves flaotong around. But on his own, I too question the decision, because of where it leaves Morris. I wonder if Craig Fitzgibbon came on the market woud be bid heavily, and tell Hindy he's playing 5/8?

Riddell brings more than stats though....heart, enthusiasm, ability to break open a game etc

And Misty.....we woud put a bid in for fitzgibben, we wouldnt tell hindmarsh he was playing 5/8 cos he'd be the second lock.

You can't look at stats only for certain players. Players like Puletua and Pritchard would not be considered top class. Riddell is an impact player and a very good one at that. Overpriced? I probably agree with you there, but he is a quality player.

Parramatta currently has very few options in attack - we grind out games (my god I agree with gus - please shoot me now - but its true).

We need some attacking weapons - Riddell is just that - someone the opposition have to worry about and send a few players to tackle him.

If it costs a bit over the general price for someone like that, then bugger it we have to do it.

Riddell will open gaps like no tomorrow. I didn tuse to notice how powerful and the gaps he opens up around a bunch of tired forwards. Sure it was souths but his attack potnetial is huge if used as impact after 15 min.

if your going to compare stats, then compare them properly. you have not taken into account game time, meters gained or dummy half runs - which in my opinion is a vital element if you're comparing hookers.

hypothetically (based on the numbers you've given us) riddel would have made 22-23, 13hitups in 80 mins. (assuming he plays roughly 50mins) doesnt look quite as bad now.

i beleive riddel also has the edge on morris in drawing penalties, meters gained, better short passing game (putting players into holes) and equal forsight and vision.

Those who say we wasted our money are gooses.

a) Morris is not a hooker- and i'm blowed if he's having a good season. He doesn't know when to run, lacks vision out of dummy half and does not give the forwards the ball on the advantage line- the sooner we get him out of the startiung hooker position and into the halves or onto the bench the better in my opinion.

b) Riddell is possibly the best attacking hooker in the game. Saints led 32-0 when Riddell went off the field....and went to half time up 32-12 and looked totally disorganised. Riddell has vision, knows when to run and gets his forwards going forward. He is 100 times the hooker Morris is and if you believe otherwise you are kidding.

...and for those of you comparing stats- have a look at how many breaks, tries Riddell directly set up and compare that to Morris. Riddell is a very underrated player- get yourselves a copy of St George v Brisbane or St George v Roosters from last year and you'll know what i'm talking about.

Riddell has vision

Agreed. And power that Morris doesn't. We aren't dumping Morris, just moving him to a position that suits him better. He is our halves option. Unfortunately, we lost a few quality hookers when he got him and Smith had to use him to cover the problem. Now with Riddell, problem solved!
