The Newtown Rugby League Football Club 2007 Season Launch
- The Bluetongue Brewery Bluebag Bash -

The Newtown Rugby League Football Club, the first rugby league club formed in Australia, will be holding its official 2007 season launch at the NSW Leagues Club, 165 Phillip Street, Sydney on the evening of Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 (7.00pm for 7.30pm).

This year the annual season launch is being conducted at the traditional home of Rugby League football in this great state of NSW, the NSW Leagues Club. Our venue in recent years, the Petersham RSL Club, is currently undertaking a major refurbishment of the club’s auditorium area. The Jets season launch also serves to commemorate the achievements of a true Titan of the Newtown RLFC and Australian Federal politics, the late Fred Daly MHR.

The Newtown annual season launch has seen a number of impressive public speakers and interesting personalities appearing in the past and that reputation has been maintained this year. This year’s guest speakers will include former Australian test cricket great Doug Walters, along with the former premiership-winning first grade footballer, outspoken ACT politician and ABC radio personality, Paul “Ossie” Osborne. Paul is also notorious for his unabashed partisanship in favour of the Newtown Jets.

As part of this club’s recognition of outstanding contributions made in the course of our proud 99-year history, there will be a special presentation made at the 2007 launch to Dick Poole, the distinguished former Newtown centre who achieved great fame as a player and coach at both the club and international level in the 1950’s.

The evening’s proceedings will be compered by Terry Williams, well known for his media and organisational work with the NSW Rugby League, his exceptional record in Rugby League historical scholarship and also as the author of the original Newtown RLFC club history, “Out of the Blue”.

There will be an array of distinguished guests in attendance, their presence at the launch in itself a genuine tribute to the remarkably tenacious qualities of Australia’s oldest rugby league club. It is difficult to name any other Australian sporting organisation that has endured so much in its battle for survival – and yet the Newtown RLFC is still here as large as life, continuing to “trade punches” with all the heavyweight clubs of Australian rugby league.

Indeed, the evening should also be seen as a celebration of Newtown’s ongoing partnership with one of the most successful and professionally-administered organisations in Australian sporting circles - the famed Sydney Roosters RLFC. This association has the capacity to consolidate Newtown on a long-term competitive basis in the highest-standard competition of the NSW Rugby League.

The Newtown RLFC is proud to acknowledge the generous support being given to our club’s 2007 season launch by the Bluetongue Brewery.

The cost per ticket is $130.00 (including GST) or $1200.00 for a table of ten. The price includes a first-class dinner and drinks.
Dress requirements: Lounge Suit / Smart Casual.

If you would like to secure tickets for one of the standout events on the Newtown Jets club calendar, get in early and phone your order for tickets to the Newtown RLFC office on 1300 36 36 90 or fax your order on 9559 3202 or email on [email protected].

Wishing all of you good health and good fortune, and I look forward to meeting up with you at the 2007 season launch on Wednesday, March 14th.

Regards,

Barry N. Vining
President
Newtown Rugby League Football Club.

I'm sure they will have good time! AND they will probably come to future Launch's as they are always well run and entertaining.

I'm looking forward to seeing you, Stu and my fellow buddies from the Hill Bar again.
