1 McKinnon. Outstanding. A class act in attack and defence. His prevention of Simms scoring was international class stuff. Hold your head high, son, you are doing your club VERY proud. 9

2 Peterson. More of the same, but still tried hard. Got no opportunity in attack through crap service from Dykes. Did more than his fair share of dummy half work when tired forwards (who did 50% less defensive work in the first half) went missing in attack. 7

3 Langi. Tried harder in defence, consistent in attack without being outstanding. The partnership with Peterson is not working. 6

4 Graham. OUt of his depth. Maybe he was rushed back too early, maybe he was out of position, but he was overawed by Creagh, and was totally ineffective 5

5 Grothe. Great try, bad missed tackle, otherwise tried hard with limited opportunity. Posted badly in defence at times. 6

6 Dykes. Woeful. Started OK, but the defence read his every play. No spark at all in attack. has to be dropped on that performance. 4

7 Thorman. Tried hard, ut lacks the nippiness and confidence that a halfback needs. 6

8 Vella. Good hit ups in the first half, but missing in the second. 6

9 Morris. Like most of the team, dropped of in the second half. Kicking game was non existant. 6

10 Tsoulos. A solid game, gave away some silly penalties though. PLayed with ticker - great hit on Ridell in first half. 7

11 Hopkins. He isn't Hindy. Tried hard but ineffective. 5

12 Stapleton. See Hopkins. 5

13 Wagon. Still useless, although his defensive game is better suited to Lock. Offers absolutely nothing in attack. 5

14. Webster. Did some good things when on. 6

15 Widders. Ineffectual 4

16 Moi Moi. Inept. 3

17 Muckert. Useless 4

McKinnon was the best on the park. Grothe was good at times in attack but defensively let us down. Peterson was nothing special, dropped a crucial kick and misread a lot of the play. Langi was poor I thought, couldn't break the line and not fast enough. Graham struggled in return to first grade, I can accept that. Dykes was woeful, offered us nothing, back to the Dykes of '02 and '03. Thorman did some good things, but defence went missing at times as well. Tsoulos, our most effective forward, good on him. Morris, we needed someone to be creative and he couldn't do that. Vella, didn't do enough when he should have, we needed a big game from him and he didn't deliver. Stapleton, well he was ok, nothing special, Hopkins the same, just didn't do anything worthwhile. Wagon was strong in defence as usual, I thought he was one of our better players tonight. Widders = woeful, worst game i've ever seen him play. Muckert did nothing to take not of. Moi Moi, a few good runs in the first half but very little else. Webster really took a long time to pass the ball at times I thought, let the defence rush up, set up a good break though, so he did something good, which is better than just about everyone else.

I've gotta agree with your gradings Misty....altho I think Fui tried hard while he was out there.

One other thing I noticed tonight is that Thorman seems to be the only guy in our entire team who tries to talk it up a bit....everyone runs around with their bloody mouths shut, but Thorman seems to at least try to give people a bit of a gee up and organise a bit....I really think we need that to get a bit of team spirit going....when I played footy we were trained to run around at training yelling and talking to eachother all the time - if for nothing else, then to let eachother know where you are.

I think your ratings are valid for the first 60 minutes. For the last 20 minutes, take 3 off every player. That gives a more accurate assessment of their last 20. They turned their toes up, to a reserve grade side.

One interesting point that I was too tired to note last night - the most hitups for Parra last night - 13 - was shared by 2 players. McKinnon and Peterson. Fullback and bloody winger. That's why I praised Peterson. A winger should NEVER have to do more work than the forwards.

NRL STATS count a kick return as a hitup nowadays, so you will find the backs or fullbacks especially will top the hitup count.

Players were embarassing for the last 20 mins. No effort at all.

They shouldve taken their jerseys off as soon as the siren went cos it was embarassing to see them wearing it.

The only reason I stayed till the end was so I could booo them off the field, and it f*&king hurt like hell to do it

Kick returns are always counted as hitups. Still, you don't get a kick return every set of 6. For the Melbourne game, from memory, the top 3 were Hindy, Vella and Stapleton.

I agree with newmanj for 60mins we were in it then we lost the plot. The score could have been alot worse they bombed 3 tries ( i think). The one question i would like answered is when are the boys going to run straight up the guts instead of across the ground like crabs ](*,)

We played well last week for 50 mins, this week 60 mins. BUt that's no excuse. We were good for the 1st 60 mins in defence. saints put in some good kicks to score.

We just couldn't attack. Dykes kicks on the 4th when in the opposition red zone and on the 5th it's always a bomb. I'll be happy with what the doggies did in the 84 gf against us. ROll it in the in goal and try and get the ball back and continuosly do it. Their defence will get tired.

But back to the saints game, it was attrocious because Saints gave us the ball on a platter. Just as fatty said. But we couldn't put points on. I'd say kick a goal as thorman wanted to just to get some points on rather than being desparate all the time in scoring.

And where is our discipline?? We use to be so decipline. Now we tackle our guts out for 4-5 tackles. And it's good defence. And then we give away a penalty. THen they get into our redzone, and you what happens then, they score.

I think you guys are a little hard on Moi Moi. We not why he's in the team and it's not to play 80 mins. So if the team is playing bad, you can't expect him to pull out a hindy. He is there for one purpose only.

Strider, totally agree with what you said abt thorman being the only talker. I've said it b4 that Wagon is not a captain coz have you ever seen him give confidence or gee ups or moral boosters to our guys???? I think not. I reckon it's time to throw it to hindy or maybe morris.

And it's time to give Dykes, Langi, Petersen and MMucker some NO PAY LEAVE.

i think almost all of your gradings were way too high, Misty. McKinnon was obviously spot on, and despite our thrashing I think he should get one or two Dally M points.

I would also give Moi Moi a higher rating - the guy has limited first grade experience yet really had a go out there. Didn't bust em up like he has in other games, but there was never a time when he was standing around doing nothing, He was always eager to take up the ball and always hit the line hard, it's just I think the Dragons were ready for him and always had good numbers on him.

Misty, I've just done my ratings and I do think you've been kind to the halves and harsh to the interchange bench. As I've said on another thread, the bench players don't seem to get any time, but if you look at Moimoi and Muckert they both made good metres when on the park. Meanwhile, poor old Deano was left out there to make 39 tackles and 15 hit ups (that's Hindmarsh-line statistics). Yet, you've been very kind to Thorman and Morris, who didn't provide any direction or attacking flair, IMHO.
