My NSW team
Hayne
B. Morris
J. Morris
Jennings
Minichiello
Barret
Kimmorley (c)
L. Lewis
Watmough
Creagh
Weyman
Ennis (hooker/half combo with Kimmorley otherwise would have chosen Farah)
Perry
Bench: Hindmarsh, Bird, Gidley, G. Stewart
18th man: Waterhouse (very unlucky to miss out could almost put him in there instead of G. Stewart)
I am sticking with Kimmorley at halfback as he was called in for the 3rd game last year under pressure and well and truly got the job done including a crucial copybook tackle on a flying Greg Inglis who was running like a Porsche on turbo down the sideline at a crucial stage of the game and Kimmorley not only grass-cut him in a classic tackle but bundled him into touch. Prior to this NSW were chopping and changing their halves and failing. I would also stick with Barret for stability and experience although Soward is unlucky to miss out and Bird could also play 5/8th.
The backs are a mix of hard-nosed veterans who know what Origin is about (Minichiello, Kimmorley, Barret) and upcoming younger stars at their peak of their game (Hayne, B. Morris, J. Morris, Jennings).
Dont forget that in Origin you dont necessarily pick the best team you pick the team that will get the job done and have the best chance of winning the series. If you picked a team on the sole basis of whats the best team on paper then blokes like Minichiello, Barret, Kimmorley, and even Hindmarsh on the bench wouldnt get picked. By picking too many rookies in crucial positions you are destined to lose.
