Nathan Fein?

just read the latest report that Nathan Fein has been given permission to negotiate and could end up leaving the Cowboys.

now, i wonder how many seconds it takes for him to be linked with the Eels, given that he is a halfback and is off contract??

on one hand i reckon we could do alot worse than Nathan Fein. He's shown signs of being a very good half and has played Origin after all, but as i said when discussion was reared regarding Mathew Head, do we really need to import another team's good young promising halfback when we have Michael Witt, Tim Smith, and Chris Thorman at the club already??

The less we chop and change and try to import talent, the better we are going to go. I reckon most of our woes of the past couple of seasons has come from a new look side turning up at the beggining of each year.

Can't be any closer to the truth than that....

I disagree to a certain extent. The problem has been that Smith has gone for QUANTITY over QUALITY. You can't tell me that if we went for 2 or 3 quality rep players they wouldn't help our cause for next year.......*cough* *cough* Glenn Morrison *cough* *cough* ;-)

On Fien, yeah, don't think he really offers a whole lot more than what we currently have in the halves dept.

Some of you probably don't realise this but Nathen has played State of origon football and quite well actually, he will be handy player to have if he stays on the field. However I would prefer Orford, Firma or Head if at all possible.

There's no point going after halves, we've got decent halves Witt, Thorman, Smith, Morris. Even if we buy Fien the forwards need to step up.

no question that 2 quality centres and another quality backrower would come in handy

Oh look, this kid is a talent. I have no doubt about that, but you don't win premierships with a bunch of 17-19 year olds either. There needs to be a good balance of young talent and ELITE level talent. We are currently lacking the latter in a number of key positions. Our current poor situation is a result of inept recruitment and retention of talent within the club over the past 3-4 years. We need to turn this around immediately. We signed alot of players last year, some have so far turned out to be good purchases and some appear to be not so good. I hope we go for QUALITY over QUANTITY this time though.

Mark my words, if we don't bring (back) some OUTSIDE talent to the club next year we will be in an even worse situation than we currently find ourselves in.

We gotta have the forwards going forward before worrying about the halves. I'd be focusing on improving our backline, we need a good centre and another good winger.

OUR CENTRES ARE PATHETIC
OUR FORWARDS ARE TOO BIG AND SLOW-ITS OBVIOUS COMPARED TOO THE DOGS AND ROOSTERS PACK
OUR WAGON PLAYS FIRST RECEIVER AND CANNOT EVEN PASS THE BALL
OUR WAGON HAS PLAYED 40-ODD GAMES AS OUR LINKMAN TO THE BACKLINE-I WOULD NOT TO BE RUNNING OF HIM AT ALL
THERE IS NO LINK SECOND PHASE STYLE TO OUR PLAY TOO PREDICTABLE
AND YET NO-ONE SEES ANY CHANGE TO OUR STYLE OR DIRECTION!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

our pack isnt that bad... i mean.. full strenght we'd be having cannings cayless hindmarsh and tsoulous who are all pretty decent... Afamagasa looks the goods too

all u need is one more quality player in there and ure sorted...

but i must praise brian in that without him recruiting so many big fellas into the club... we'd be worse than we are now... dont rate stapleton or peek... 50/50 on armit....

got a mil or so to spend... go buy another big fella smithy..

eelsta.....

GAME FIRST > as hindy said..it seems as if u can do it better then them... guess ill be seeing u in the parra first grade line up this week???

The pack is fine, Parramatta has plenty of Props and second rowers under contract for next season. Parra needs a Quality Half ie Matt Orford. Parramatta's kicking game was terrible against the Tigers. The fact is that in the 3 games Thorman has started this year, Parramatta has only scored a average of 9.3 points a match. Call me a total geek but those are some bad stats and that is the reason Thorman got dropped cause he isnt leading this side. I dont think that a Thorman/Witt halves combination is going to get Parramatta anywhere.

Fien is OK, but I wouldn't get excited over him being available. Witt, Thorman, Smith are all just as good prospects for our future in the halves.

We are looking pretty bare in the centres and for quality in the forwards the way things have turned out this year so far. I'd only get excited if some quality players for those position became available, otherwise I'd stick with developing the junior talents we already have inside the club.

If your after a centre Paul Whatuira would be a decent buy,he's been given permission to look around by Penrith management ;-)

Pazza I think we would only go after an Orford or Head or any other halfback if Dykes agrees to a release from his contract (which is not entirely unlikely).

You are right Parraren, we have a lot of halves there now and we would have to lose a couple to get Orford or Head-my preference
My brother has watched their lower grades for a couple of years and spotted him as an excellent kicker ,organiser and sharp runner only small but quick thinking and alert!!- what we need!
