Nathan Hindmarsh expects a stellar season

01 Feb, 2010 09:52 AM
PARRAMATTA Eels workhorse and one of Robertson’s favourite sons Nathan Hindmarsh is due to return to full pre-season training as he recovers from a wrist reconstruction.
The back-rower had surgery on his troublesome left wrist before Christmas and spent a month in a cast.
He resumed training with the NRL squad after an extended break following his tour to Europe with the Australian Kangaroos for their successful four nations competition campaign.
The former Blues representative decided to have the surgery in December so he would be ready for round one of the 2010 NRL season and is on track to break Brett Kenny’s record for the most games played for the club (265) early this year.
Hindmarsh said he was excited about the upcoming season for the Eels and was keen to resume full training soon.
“I got the cast off in mid-January, then had a week of physio and back into it,” he said.
“The recovery has been going really well so at the moment I’m doing everything at training but working with the ball, so I’m not far behind the other players.
“I think we’ve got a great squad this year and there is a real buzz around the boys.
“I’m looking forward to running onto Parramatta Stadium for the first time in round one with them, and a huge home crowd to cheer us on.” The Eels are scheduled to play the Dragons in round one on Friday, March 12 at Parramatta Stadium.

This time last year he was lean and mean. A contrast to the Bali Belly he had on the Summertime show on Friday. Poore gave it to him on the show about it. I sense a few sand hills coming his way over the next month.

Im just hoping, some on the other forwards have been told to pull their finger out, and take some of the defensive load this year. They cannot continue to rely on Hindy to make 40-50 tackles a game.
If Parra are to win the comp this year, it needs to be done on the back of a excellent defensive unit.
Lets face it, before the magical run late last year, we were being smashed.
I would be willing to cop a few loses, as long as I can see everyone putting in, in defense early in the season....

Poore / Shackleton will help with that. I'm certain that's what Shackleton is going to be used for

ben smith can be a 30+ tackle a game guy .... 1/3 of hindy's tackles are just flops anyway  - but thats hindy, he's ALWAYS there, and thats why he's the one that saves the day so often

PLUS don't forget Jeff Robson...he does his 30+ tackles. Init good to have a tackling half back....

Having a 5/8 and a hooker and a winger and a couple of other blokes who can kick certainly makes that less of an important skill for the 1/2 though....(in my opinion)

In general play maybe but in the opposition 20, you don't really say Hey Winger, get in here and kick and I'll stand in the Wing spot or hooker, kick between the guys legs, not too hard or it will go dead.

I reckon I've seen Burty pull off some pretty good in-goal kicks inside the opp 20.

Besides, Robbo and Morts seem to swap between 1/2 and 5/8 anyway aaaaand Robbo's kicking, while not fantastic, isn't all that bad.

the level of expectation doesn't change from year to year, this is no different despite that special tinge in the air that we carried at the begining of 02 and 06..lol
