These are the divisions immediately below Superleague, and the annual battle for promotion and relegation is on.

Today's full time scores:

NL1
Leigh Centurions v Whithaven 30-16
(winner through to grand final and chance for promotion to ESL, loser stays alive next week)

Hull KR v Featherstone Rovers 18-19
(winner plays loser of above game, loser end of season)

Note: Keighley Cougars finished bottom of NL1 and are automatically relegated to NL2 next year.

NL2
Note: Barrow Raiders finished minor premiers and are automatically promoted to NL1 next year.

Halifax (NL1) v York City Knights 37-20
(winner through to grand final for an NL1 spot, loser stays alive next week)

Workington Town v Hunslet Hawks 27-13
(winner plays loser of game above, loser end of season)

Next weeks games:
NL1 Whitehaven v Featherstone Rovers
(winner to play Leigh Centrurions in Grand Final for possible ESL promotion)

NL2: York City Knights v Workington Town
(winner to play Halifax in Grand Final for NL1 spot)

NL3: Warrington-Woolston Rovers v Bradford-Budley Hill
Coventry Bears v Bramley Buffaloes
(both matches sudden death, winners go through to Grand Final)

Grand Finals will be played at Widnes on October 10.

Leigh have to be favourites to win (epsecially now), but it depends if ESL decide if they match the criteria - it's not automatic promotion. That decision comes out in the week leading to the NL1 grand final I think, to give both teams an idea of where they stand.

I can't imagine them not giving Leigh a go though... (or Whitehaven or Featherstone if it comes down to it).

I'm hoping the York Knights can fight their way up a division to NL1, but that's looking less likely now with two hard games ahead of them.

:alcho: .

WC&C: It most certainly does. The F*ckers wanted more Sky money rather than 14 teams.

French team Perpingnan will start playing in 2006 ESL season, so Widnes are safe in ESL for 2005.

But at the end of season 2005, 2 teams will go down, replaced by the French Team and a promoted NL1 team.

Teams in the hot seat for relegation you'd expect to be Leigh (or whoever goes up now), and Widnes, London, Huddersfield, Salford, or Warrington? Castleford could come straight back up to ESL for 2006 if they play their cards right next year.

I wouldn't think so actually... right or wrong I would be very surprised if any of this year's ESL top six get relegated at the end of next season?

This weekend's National League finals results.

NL1: Whitehaven 30 Featherstone Rovers 2

NL2: York City Knights 70 Workington Town 10
Went to this one - very one sided. Half Danny Brough (Hull 2005) and winger Austin Buchanan are quality. Lock Mark Cain bagged five tries.

NL3: Warrington Woolston Rovers 32 Bradford-Dudley Hill 18
and Coventry Bears 32 Bramley Buffaloes 18

All Grand Finals will be played at Widnes on October 10.
NL1: Leigh Centurions v Whitehaven (for possible ESL promotion)
NL2: Halifax v York City Knights for NL1 spot.
NL3: Coventry Bears v Warrington Woolston Rovers

Yeah, the fall from professional grace! Guess Halifax were never one of the "chosen ones"...
