Sea Eagles Add to Coaching Staff
Matt Trodden

25/11/2011 12:53:02 PM

Manly Sea Eagles are proud to announce David Penna and Matt Parish have joined the first grade coaching staff for the 2012 season.
Both Penna and Parish will work under new head coach Geoff Toovey as assistant coaches in 2012, beginning their roles immediately.
Penna joins the first grade staff after a four year stint as the head coach of the Sea Eagles Toyota Cup team, and a successful 155 game first grade playing career with Parramatta and Souths. Penna also coached Italy in 2009 during their Mediterranean Shield campaign.
Parish joins the Sea Eagles from Salford City Reds in the English Super League after a six month stint as head coach.
He had previously been an assistant at North Queensland under Neil Henry, and in representative teams with the Country Origin and NSW State of Origin sides under Laurie Daley and Ricky Stuart respectively. Parish also played 55 first grade games for Balmain between 1988-1993.
Head coach Geoff Toovey said that while it will take time to settle in, both coaches will contribute a lot to the team.
“We’re still settling in here, there is a little bit of a transition period,” Toovey said.
“Both are successful coaches in their own right, and we’re looking for plenty of input from them throughout the year.”
Sea Eagles captain Jamie Lyon also said that he was excited to work with both coaches, particularly the new coach in Parish.
“We’re looking forward to having Matt on board,” Lyon said.
“He comes with a big wrap, and a lot of people have a high opinion of him, so I’m looking forward to working with Matt.”
Both Penna and Parish were on board for the Sea Eagles’ first full training session this morning, where the squad were put through their paces in the driving rain.

Don't know much about Parish but I assume he is a good coach with his resume. Penna is a great appointment, he has coached all of the young players we have coming through right now in the 20's, that can only help with keeping them on the right path in their development, he's well respected by those guys.

He talks a good game (actually he whinged and complained about everything) but failed to deliver with Salford then ran off to you guys at the first opportunity as it was all a bit to difficult for him. ;-)

Matt parish has coached in the old Jim Beam cup with Erina, north Qld staff and also blues state of origin staff, he is quite a smart football mind and has good people skills.

Parish coched the entrance in the jim beam cup and was shown the door. neil henry offloaded him and so did brian smith. penna has probably only won 5 games in 5 years with manly lower grades. This is amateur hour at its best at manly. it is likened to the funny farm
