Quantam are not taking up their option for next season, looks like Centrebet will be stepping in.
SPONSORSHIP of one of the most successful rugby league clubs of the past 40 years is again up for sale with a betting agent ready to step in as the Sea Eagles major sponsor for the next three seasons.
The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are shopping around for a major sponsor after Quantum elected not to continue their deal into 2011.
The Manly Daily understands all current sponsors have been approached to take over from the water solutions company.
Even Delmege Residential, owned by Sea Eagles co-owner Max Delmege, could be enticed back to the club as a major sponsor.
There would be nothing better than being back on that jersey, Delmege told the Daily on Monday.
I still think its the best value-for-money deal you can get for your dollar.
The Sea Eagles have also approached current gold sponsors, Centrebet, to link with the club as a front and back jersey sponsor.
The betting agent has already come on board as a second-tier sponsor for the next three seasons, valued at about $600,000.
Centrebet spokesman Neil Evans confirmed his employer is locked in negotiatons to upgrade their arrangement to a major sponsorship.
That could well happen, he said.
We are in full-steam negotiations right now.
Under NRL rules, clubs are not permitted to sign betting agents as naming rights sponsors as the governing body has their own $1 million per annum arrangement with Tabcorp.
NRL Chief Operating Officer Graham Annesley said the Sea Eagles can engage Centrebet as a major sponsor, as long as the deal does not include naming rights.
In all cases where a club enters into a sponsorship arrangement, it must be pre-approved by the NRL, just to make sure everything is in order, Annesley said.
Two years ago, a betting agent was prevented from sponsoring the Sea Eagles as the NRL claimed it conflicted with their own arrangement.
They can have branding on the playing strip, but they cant as part of the naming rights, Annesley confirmed on Monday.
