does anyone else hate the modern logo? I can't be the only one.
it's really american and tasteless

I think a slighty modernised version of the classic would be way better

I naturally like the old logo but I do like the current 1.

We've had a few logos over time & I've liked them all.

Agree too much soup. Not that older logo is a masterpiece but it is much better than the current modern logo.

To be honest as much as I enjoy sport I find it increasingly tasteless aesthetically. Look at the BBL uniforms. Its like the corporates who employ and approve the designs for this shit believe the consumer needs to be clubbed over the head with blunt colours. We live in an age where we are at the mercy of advertisement and all colour use at sports events is designed to sell shit.

As for the sharks / blades contracts, I would love the inside word on their process of design and what they think best represents a football club. How many rounds of design do they go through and who gives the final approval. Its a big mistake to think that modern design means it needs to be all angular and sharp. The current sharks logo will age terribly. It looks like an emaciated stunted plastic robotic reef shark thats been painted fluro blue... Just my point of view of course. Some peeps probably love it...

Its hard to make it intimidating without looking cartoonish

one thing I would say, is given that we have moved back to sky blue, the shark is now the wrong colour.

Management at the club don't like the current logo either but anything with the licensed NRL logo on it, when sold, illicits a 10% commision to the NRL as a "licensing fee". Goes for all clubs.

They don't want to change the logo back to the retro one, which is the most popular by the length of the straight, rather retain ownership of it and release specialist merch with it on.

At the moment they just hand everything over to Blades, get it back, have a bit of a committee meeting and get on with it. With our colours and mascot being so cool I think we really miss a trick with merch and have said as much but merch manager is really down the pecking order at the club and paid peanuts with no authority.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like the current plan is too try and make as many quick bucks off the old logo as possible rather than have a strong overall club identity.

If current management don't like the current logo then they should change it and next years 50th is the perfect op to do so. Just as long as they don't get someones mate of a mate do do it on the cheap.

Most of our Merchandise including the jersey design has that: 'just get the thing made' vibe about it - the vibe of in-house manufacturer doing the design as well and lack of any input from the client about said design.

Love to see the club invite 5 x Australian based graphic design firms to pitch ideas and then pick the best instead of the 'committee meeting' and 'getting on with it' work flow.

ive even emailed Gorman on this

our stuff should look mint. but a lot of it does not.

compared em with souths, there gear a lot of it is way better than anything the generic template could do. their gear is thought out and a lot of it is really good.

hang on a momento....

Russ - "is the club looking to update its branding and merchandise ? Ours is OK but IMO lacks a bit in areas and is behind the likes of Rabbitohs. this is most apparent in the generic NRL Merchandising"

Lyall -" Indeed it is and we have a leading consultant in at the moment to explore all possibilities"

20th May 2015

Most of my correspondence with him was in regards to shark park and the leagues apparent push to centralised venues.
but I did ask him about merch

Like the current logo as it is tbh

And on a side note, I bought the white polo shirt last week. Looks amazing. In fact we have fantastic apparel across the board this season

Yeah I don't mind the logo or the current merchandise/training gear etc to be honest. Some of the teams are a lot worse than ours.

Merch won't be top notch from Blades, end of story.
I think Souths can make whatever they want as they can sell in large quantities.
We are stuck with those bloody awful $80 Polos.

Obviously I have a fondness and love of the classic logo, always happy to buy merch with it displayed.

However I really like our current logo, I think it looks great.

Going off Frank's comments though, it would be nice if we developed another official/unofficial logo, a real stripped down, simple version. Something that we can use to combat those annoying bunny car stickers. Neither of our logo's look good on cars and it doesn't matter how hard the club tries. So lets just design a logo for that sole purpose (which can then obviously be re-purposed for other things).

I also always liked this bad boy:

I love that logo RUBIKS! I remember getting a little figurine at a service station of that character back in the early 80's, it was awesome! I might even still have it somewhere.

Love that one too Rubiks! It'd make an awesome car sticker.

It was a car sticker! I had it on the old Premier for years! I also have a floor mat with it in My office right now. Few years ago I noticed it fading badly so I got some die paint and made the Blacks Blacker And The Blues Blueer . Came up Awesome ..... Must be sumpthin wrong with me !
