I think the new rules have directly impacted on our defensive style of play. It's a shame, cause last year we had some of the best defence seen in recent times. Playing smart has been stripped from the game completely and now teams that don't have a structure seem to be dominating. I'm not making excuses for our performance, we've been terrible but it just doesn't seem like we'll be able to do well in this incarnation of rugby league.
We really need to start pinning teams down inside the 20, and forget about kicking or bombing into the ingoal cause we can't do it and are risking kicking it dead. I know that everyone wants Sheck at FB but what do we do with Mini? I think more teams get the 7 tackles against us than any other team. Can't hide him on the wing, he will be just as exposed. We have a poor forward balance with 5 FG standard backrowers (Cordner, SBW, Aubo, FPN and Guerra) so I think FPN needs to move into the props or we'll need to drop someone here too.
And the worst part of all is that the new rules are meant to be creating more tries. Well I haven't seen any big scorelines besides ours against the eels.
