what do you think ?

last night the chiefs and brumbies props were slapping each other around the ears on the 'touch' command

i think its a waste of time myself.

Slows down the game too much for me, no difference with the scrum collapses anyway.

This rule has done nothing...a scrum is a scrum and props don't change...so long as they prevent the scrum collapsing frequently and causing neck injuries then that is all that matters.

good point kia ora, when was the last serious neck injury ?
john afoa gave everyone a scare last year but i cant remember many pro players ending up in a chair.

scrums are about technique and once you reach S14 stage, there shouldnt be much technique you need to know ?

At that level you probably have t go back to Ben Darwin on the WC semi. Ended his career and he probably would have been in a wheelchar if Kees Meeuws hadn't reacted quickly and taken the pressure off him.

all it does is slow down the scrummaging and lessens the impact of the hit, which as a front rower is slightly disappointing

another thing with the "touch"...i dunno if its just me but whenever Matt Goddard (i think thats the ref that eddie jones blew up on about) says the "touch" call, he sounds all sexual...almost as though he gets some sort of pleasure from seeing a cluster of 16 men thrusting themselves against each other

depending on who the ref is relates to how well the scrums pack.

the SA refs muck about too long and the scrums are a shambles.

the aussie and kiwi refs are much quicker in getting the front rows together but its still more dangerous i believe. the buckling is more apparent and i reckon its only a matter of time before we have a very serious injury.

if they want to shag around with the rules, have a go at the rucks/mauls.

I dont mind the scrums at the moment, but i never use to enjoy the battle anyway. One thing i've noticed though, and this is from what the commentators had inferred, but a few of the refs have no idea and a penalising sides who are winning the scrums and generally have no idea. Eddie jones said as much, and it cost him.

well thats because unless your in the scrum, its sometimes very hard to tell who's pulling down who and, especially if its on the other side of where the ref is standing, which prop is collapsing

I would like to know what position most of teh IRB refs played ( if/when they played)
as a general rule, if you are not in teh front row, you have sod all idea of what goes on there.
I have seen refs penalise a prop when it seemed obvious to me as an ex prop the opposite number was teh offender.
