But that takes a spot away from someone who wants to play for us, whether it's a development player or someone like KPP or May, or all of them.
Why not get some cash, as little as it is, and invest in someone else.
I used to say go and mow lawns LG but we can't give up on this season.
Let's cut the cancer out if this club.
I can see your point though Simmo but I don't think our CEO is spineless. He is just trying to help Benji get the best team possible imo.
I agree to some extent, but this is what the 6th time we have been bent over by players (and coach's) pulling this shit? This was line in the sand time, and by sacrificing a player on 250k a year to reggies for this year to make the club stronger in the future so be it. We could have dropped him out of the top 30 next year.
And to be fair to Galvin, he made it known last year he didn't want to be at the joint. We could have dropped him out of the squad back then

I don't think there's a wrong side of this debate Simmo.
I get your take on it, I really do.
Wests Tigers don't get a chance to play finals very often and if we get rid of this culture there's still a chance making it.
There's also the legal stuff going on so dropping him may have inflamed the situation.
The deal is to get some cash and for them to drop the legal.
One thing that has to be said. Any contract that we undertake in the future must be straight down the line, not of these options.
I'd rather have a team full of Twals and Seyfarths. They are not world beaters but they are great club men who want to be here.

I just checked and my understanding is we have 2 spots available prior to Galvin leaving. So that leaves us with 3 spots. Surely we aren't signing 3 gun players this season.

I'd love this post to be wrong and we announce 3 gun signings next week but I think there is basically no chance.

This is poor business by the Tigers.

I think the club needs a massive review of it's retention policies. We've gone hard now for Stef and Galvin. These are two guys who are highly rated developing players that are looking to become top tier players. They are choosing to go elsewhere and it doesn't appear to be for money.

I think in both situations we've ended up ahead though because both of these guys are not worth the money we were offering. I think this needs to be looked at as well.
This looks like it is a decision from the board? They did meet to discuss this a few days ago.
Reading between the lines, there may have been some legal issues they wanted to go away or they had just had enough.
What happens next will determine if it was a good or bad deal.
But I don't think Richo does anything without a plan.

I get the fact that we want to now cut the cancer out to try and save the patient and it does free up some money and another roster spot but what has happened has confirmed to every other club the Tigers are weak doormats that can be used and pushed around, and if they (other clubs) stick at it we'll fold like deck chairs.

I agree with you Simmo, it was line in the sand time. Even with the threat of potential legal action we needed to stick solid and defend ourselves. Richo said we were going to. We didn't. We would have gotten a higher transfer fee if we had pissed Galvin off a couple of months ago when he first said he wasn't going to re-sign for any money. We certainly would have looked more decisive.

The people representing this club always talk tough but never back it up when push comes to shove. Like the kid who always talks big about hitting the bully back. But every day he cops another punch in the head, has something else stolen, and does nothing.

The only lesson that has been learnt from this debacle is the lesson learnt by players, managers, and clubs. The Tigers can be stood over very, very easily, and whether contracted or not all our players are up for grabs to anyone who wants them, at any time.

I hate to be pessimistic but we're nothing more than a feeder club for others, and a very well paid payday for players we recruit from other clubs.

I would have rather we lost a case in court and were branded bullies in the media than folding like we have.

There is plenty of things we could have done. I knew it was the bulldogs ages ago when mason started blowing Galvin on his podcast. Why didn't we put in a no bulldogs condition on his release? Or no dogs/parra? Why reward the merkins who do the wrong thing.

A bullying conviction would hardly be what’s needed at WT:

If convicted:
The club could cop a penalty of up to $3 mill
CEO fined $600k
If another player is involved $300k

A public test of internal policies and procedures
A possible public record of a finding of workplace bullying
Adverse publicity

There could have been other examples of bullying separate from the posts. TDS may have stepped up as a witness to back his mate?

In business, not all employees are perfect for the job.
In hindsight, we dodged a bullet with Stefano (we got May) and with Galvin,
maybe Latu Fainu is a better fit.
What your saying in principle is spot on.
Within a few years we have lost Stefano and talented juniors Navren Willett (Manly Sea Eagles), Onitoni Large (Manly Sea Eagles) and Alex Isdale (Cronulla Sharks).
it's my understanding that these guys were going to cost us and since they've left they haven't set the league on fire.
I would be hitting the alarm bells if Makasini left but he didn't, he's resigned. He has the biggest wrap on him compared to the ones I've mentioned. We are desperate for a gun centre and the club has earmarked Makasini for this.
We've also had better recent signings that outweigh our loses, especially if we sign a further 2 or 3 good players.
During the recent changes to our Heads of Sheds, we have left a few players go and none of them leaving, including LG, have made me furious or over concerned.

Neither has the NRL. They are hugely responsible for the managers having all this power. Throw in the RLPA as well.
The lowlife shitbag who has more power than the RLPA & the managers is Gould.NRL head office have inexcusably allowed the megalomaniac to taint the game by allowing him to hold 2 conflicting roles in the game. How the fk can a club gen mgr be allowed to be a mouthpiece via which he can express subjective & cryptic commentary to serve his bulldogs interests.

Having a huge impact at the Dogs and in the media is a conflict of interest imo.
He blows his trumpet on TV and in other media then is the front man for the dogs.
Apart from never liking the man or trust him I think he should seperate his duties.
Braith Anasta rarely speaks about the players that he manages on 360 and that's how it should be.

We only think Gus is a merkin as he's doing it to us. I guarantee you if Gus was working for us we'd be doing cart wheels. Still I hope Galvin turns out to be worse than Tim Smith haha

Sorry I disagree. He's always been like this and no, not all Tiger fans would want him.
I want a better culture than certain clubs out there.

Spot on Ted. But now the doors have been opened.

What's to stop Richo or Benji from going on NRL360 or any of the many RL podcasts and saying "Gees you know that Steven Creighton is a great player. It's a pity he's a contracted player because if he wasn't we'd offer him twice what he's on. And we just so happen to have that money in our cap good to go."

All while having a sly wink at the camera for added effect.

On second thoughts, 100% Footy would be the best forum to do this on. Just to see the look on Jabba the Hutt's mug, and watch him blow up like the hypocritical grub he is.

I don't think we'd have the brains or guts to try this approach out, but shit it would be funny.

I think we have 3 spots that have to be filled before the cut off. 2 definite.
We should have a bucket load of cash now so who do we upgrade/extend and who do we buy.
Obviously we are chasing KPP and there seems to be something stopping us in signing May. Could it be that we were waiting to release Galvin so we don't burn our bridges of vacant spots? There could be more than just these two in that case.
