Anyone else got it???

I have only listened to 3 songs so far and it's pretty stock standard slayer tunes so far, will keep listening and see what the rest is like. I'm thinking it might be time for the lads to give it away, they are starting to sound very tired and repititive, but that will happen after 30 years though.

The DVD is an absolute waste of an extra dollar (hahaha), I watched that and was like "what the f#$k is this sh*t??" in all honesty, don't even bother watching it. I would have rathered a 'making of the album' kind of doco that everyone seems to do these days than have to sit through that tofu eating, art house $hit ever again. It's like an Ed Gein meets Bad Boy Bubby
nut job kind of short film thingy. I will never get those 20 minutes of my life back, hahaha!!

I pretty much agree.
Slayer has been great for so long, but they just have no new ideas anymore. This CD seems like God hates us all Pt 3. Christ Illusion was GHUA Pt. 2

The DVD was... interesting. Won't ever watch again.

Live they're still awesome though. So maybe for them releasing a CD is just an excuse to tour again.

Well going by the last tour, Melbourne people might say otherwise...............

In regards to the album, listened to it all the way through. If I could take it back to get a refund I would but that aint gonna happen. It's rubbish IMO, they are really tarnishing their good name with this sort of $hit. It's boring and the production is very average.

Production is worse than "very average" IMO, it sounds like absolute f**king rubbish.
It's been raped by Rick Rubin just like Death Magnetic was (see: Loudness War), to the point where I literally can't even get through the whole album without getting a headache. Congratulations on getting all the way through it beave.

On the music itself, it's just as bad. Boring, bland, repetitive, uninspired. Half the time they sound like they're not even trying. Then again, I haven't really liked anything they've done since 1988 anyway, so it's not a big surprise to me.

I reckon their best period was SOuth of heaven to divine intervention. GHUA was alright I thought but nothing spectacular. Big shame this one.

The loudness war really is destroying the music industry and is totally unnecessary. I really don't understand it.
We've all got volume control.
I listened to the CD again today. It has it's moments but for me Seasons is there high point.

Agreed mate, Seasons was the pinnacle IMO. Reign in blood is terribly over rated whilst South Of Heaven is very under rated. The production on that surpasses the last 2 albums.......how the f#$k does that happen???

I won't be buying anymore of their $hit if they decide to continue on, they've lost me for good I'm afraid. I can't believe even the many hardcore slatanic fans would like this, it's that bad.

Tell me about it mate. It's terrible.
The new Asphyx album would be an absolute gem if it wasn't for the godawful production; I'd say it might be the worst I've ever heard (yeah, maybe even worse than Death Magnetic).

Here is the first song in Audacity:

(if it says access denied, refresh the page).

What a disgrace. That makes me sick.
There is absolutely ZERO dynamics in that entire song. ZERO.
And the whole thing clips so crazy it's completely and utterly unlistenable.
I dare anyone to listen to the whole album on medium volume on your stereo without turning it off.

nah, that takes $hittyness to a whole new level Bear. But song writing wise, nah, it's probably not as bad as St Anger either. Hard to compare it to anything else. It's just a really ordinary album hey.

I know, I know!!!!!

It's good, but geez, most metal hands go on about that album like satan wrote and played on it himself. I don't doubt it's credentials and so forth as an influential album, but I really think South of Heaven was abetter album, it was produced really well and the songs on it have a real contrasting style, some songs are slower, some at break neck speed, some have good guitar harmonies blah blah blah. Angel of Death and Reign in Blood are good songs, but in between that, man I reckon there is a lot of filler.

But don't think any less of me because of this though!!!!!!

Would I be right in saying it sounds like palm muted open E string played fast with power chords thrown in randomly? ie No actual hooking riffs?.....Because thats how I imagine them at the moment

The only Slayer song I'm down with is Death Speed Metal.

I'm not a hardcore fan of theirs.
The problem with Slayer is they're a lot like NIN - they have a lot of instrumental but are short on lyrics - and I didn't know Slayer were so.........so......so.....waywood in their style.
Their early albums they had the tone of some waywood f*cken'-
Nevermind.

Does their new album come with a bonus DVD does it? Did they add an extra $7 on top of that for the bonus DVD set compared to the ordinary release CD?
Slipknot and Manson did that and both DVD were f*cking stupid as.
I mean, if Slayer's dVD is described as being cross between Gein and Bubby then for f*ck sake god help them but if you want terrible then watch Manson's Golden Grotesque bonus DVD....it's called something like Xenophrennipharapliania or something and it makes no sense like it's name. He just sits in the back of a hearse and I interperted as some queer bait man who wanted to be a sheila alar Ed Gein.

Everything's sh*t!

P.S I saw a Slayer CD in JB the other day and it looked like the old video cover of I Drink Your Blood.

i-drink-your-blood.jpg

But only it was in red.

That would be Seasons in the Abyss (their best album IMO)

The DVD is an extra dollar, but I would rather go out and have relations and spend said dollar with a cheap hooker and get AIDs than have to sit through that bollocks again.

I got bored listening to it. Someone mentioned St. Anger above, it's not THAT horrific it's just nothing new or interesting.

 I dont think any less of ya beave, everyone has their own opinion on what they like and dislike.

I agree with what you are saying, it is a an awesome album but it isnt the ultimate thrash album some say it is. I have Puppets, Rust In Peace and Among the Living before it, then Reign in Blood, but thats just the way I see it.

There are some great songs on south of heaven, Silent scream and Behind the crooked cross are a couple.

So should I bother with this new opus of theirs?

mate don't even bother, download it if you must, but don't bother buying it. It will be in the bargain basket anyways within a year I'm thinking................

one of the better albums I have heard this year is August Burns Red "constellations", it is my favourite album of the year thus far.
