New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Still, no offense taken on my part.. I find speculation over branding (all aspects from jerseys to logos to names) fascinating, but I can see how that can flood a thread.. especially once photos get involved.
Good thing there is two threads then!

This one for everything and the other one seems to be more focussed on news updates and serious discussion.

Yeah - I think we're getting up to the point of enough teams with red (what with the Dolphins just added and the likelihood of Perth Bears and PNG both using red to some degree).

Orange & green strike me as especially under-used in the NRL - something the Keas bid has particularly jumped on (looking at using both!) but there is scope for a bid like the Orcas to pick one of them... and some shade of green with black/grey/white would work.

Orcas are Black and White with Blue , Brown or Black Eyes -

Brown , Black and White
Blue , Black and White

How come pics are working for you?

Also, you would buy one? I hate that abomination of a team more than I hate Cantabs and the Canes. That was two years of rugby without my beloved Magpies. ;)
Only in a “it’s so ugly it’s awesome” love that the chargers jersey gets. As a young lad I was easily swayed by the hopes of getting a 1st division side- and Cullen in our team. Seem a few whispers an update might be on the cards for either Magpies or Turbos charity jersey…

His Dad was also an All Black and his Mum was a Silver Fern (and his Grandmother was also a Silver Fern).

Yep, crazy sporting genes.
Also saw his dad was an NZ softball rep that turned down a MLB contract with LA and cousin on other side us Socceroo Tim Cahill. Absolutely nuts the sporting genes going on with that family

Even amount of black and white would be fine and doesn’t clash with any current sides. The worry would be the away/clash jersey. If it’s a Canterbury side I’d just go red and black as a nod to the local area, given it’s a pretty under-utilised palette currently. Maybe keep some white in there and put some red trim on the main jersey to tie them together. Forest green or dark greeen instead of the red would work too. Please no teal, too close to the Titans and I hate the colour anyway.
PENRITH & West tigers

Just adopt the SL way and have a different alternate each year in whacky colours. Gives the fans something different to buy when they got bored of the home jersey.
Not only is that a terrible idea, that copying the lower standard of RL comp compared to our NRL...
And along with the fk all fans that show up to esl who would buy the handful of alterate jerseys in wacky colors, there's no way the clubs here would bother, unless it was a throwback to the Sevens, like the Cowboys and Penrth did recently (some other clubs too) even then they used their club colors...
This just wreaks of the Broncos teal away, the most useless idea in jersey history

My favourite line was at the end of that news report,
"Crucially the Orcas are prepared to pay a substantial licence fee, Unlike the Western Bears, whose bid collapsed, when they refused to do so"

I've been saying from day dot, you won't get a licence unless there is something in it for the existing clubs, the perf bid fkd up, coz they carried the baggage from the Western Reds going broke, and try to weasel out of actually investing in the competition, and only focusing on themselves, and what was needed for their own club.

If they got in 2027, as was originally planned, they would've got PNG and Orcas split of a licence fee too, (not that it would cover their own, but something is better than nothing, and nothing is what that dope Cummins was offering the NRL)

To be fair Cumins DID try to get a license fee for proposal after the bid was rejected (just like Orcas have). However the ARLC/NRL refused to continue working with the WA Consortium there on after.

Whilst there’s always a chance of NZ2 coming in earlier, I can’t see NZ2 leapfrogging into 18th or 19th spot. I think they have 20th spot all but locked in. One of the bids will be coming in regardless unless there’s a monumental collapse, which I doubt there would be.

I can just see the NRL playing the old “you’re a chance to come in, you have all the merits but we want Warriors to keep growing after a few rough years away due to Covid” rhetoric being dribble out as a reason to keep them to Team 20.

I don’t think that’ll be in regard to crowds or anything of that nature either, Warriors can’t grow beyond max sold out capacity crowds all season/every game that they just had! I think it’ll be based on their club specific TV viewership (which also isn’t right because they get the least viewed AEST time slots 6pm Friday, 3pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday ALOT - obv. due to friendly NZ time ).

All that aside - does the NRL just announce all 3 franchises off the bat? Or 18/19 soon and 20 later? If 20 is announced same time as PNG and 18 does it give 20 an unfair advantage of having more runway purchase to lead them for take off? Or is it a disadvantage? Thoughts?

Zinzan Brooke on almost going to league
He packed a sad when he thought Ridge was getting paid more than him- when in truth Ridge wouldn’t tell him because he was embarrassed that he was getting a fraction of what Brooke was getting.
Brooke was an amazing #8 in Union but not sure he would have found his spot in league. Probably a prop/Lock but with a backs skill set (he nailed a drop goal from 50m out with ease) which wasn’t really in vogue in the props of those days. Modern comparison is probably more of a Tohu Harris type (although Zinny was much better)

Jim Dymock/Jason Smith style ball playing lock is the style I think he would have played then. Was disappointing that we didn't get to see him playing league but he hit a purple patch for the ABs.
