Thing is, it's not just Reason airing it - every time a comments section opens up on the topic, I see some fans pining for the "good old days" of provincial rugby directly below tests.
That's been happening for 25 years ...

Yep, and typically those comments haven't gained traction because Super Rugby was doing OK & making good coin for NZ Rugby.

If Super Rugby Pacific flounders, then these kind of reactionary voices will only grow louder.

And if Super Rugby can't hold back the tide of the NRL.. what hope has the NPC got ?
We are serious looking at the prospect of the NRL adding a new team ( doubling Rugby leagues presents) while Union retreats into Provincial...
Nothing to see here ...

Exactly. We might find ourselves in the rare situation where league is more expansion-minded that union

in fact *it could be argued* that with RL Test footy getting competitive PI teams & the NRL growing in size while Super Rugby sheds South African, Japanese & Argentinian teams in favour of Fiji & Pacifica (shrinking the geographical footprint), we're at that stage already.

It astounds me that it's taken this long. You can't even compare the games really . RL in a constant struggle, fighting for every metre, wearing each other down, the skill the determination, the contact! Union is less than a pre game warm up seriously.
The Warriors getting a crowd while Blues play in front of nobody sumed it up for me..
We're going, there's a real game on.

Nrl encouraged it

tier two players eligible for origin instead of making them pick Australia
That’s not exactly a good thing either though, it just stacks the deck in favour of Australia as the main result of it is players defecting from NZ to the PIs.

Nz union talk show

last time wallabies had a super star was a league player
Well, well, well... a NZ RU commentator saying that RL is in the best condition it's been for a long, long time. Exactly the opposite of what Te Kaha has been telling us. Hmmm....

Also, confirmed... it does burn RU snobs when NZers (Brandon Smith) dare to bag Union - haha.

We know what a successful warriors side looks like, we’ve had them before in 2002-3 and 2007-11 (09 excepted) They consistently pull around 18-20k when they’re going well, and maybe 25 for finals.
They've never won a premiership or had a golden generation where they've gone on a 5 - 10 year run of success. That would be a whole other level of hype that what we've seen in the past.

lol - To'o, Sualii, Crighton, Luai, Kafusi, Paulo & Papalii would have all made the Australian squad or gone very close to it.
