Blistering pace, fancy footwork and brilliant balance are just some of the attributes Ray Wallace, the Northcote Tigers Grand Final winning fullback possesses.

Wallace’s Wade McKinnon type display and Northcote’s tenacious defence helped the Tigers to a 26-14 win over Mangere East in the Sharman Cup Grand Final.

The Tigers were the first to score through hooker Lewis Stokes following a break by Captain Lamond Copestake.

Hawks standoff Andrew Wharton came up with the play for his side, chipping the ball for second rower Tonga Kose to score and level at six a piece.

Both sides scored again before the break to level at 12-all, this time Wharton grabbed one himself and Stokes managed his second for the Tigers.

Early in the second spell both sides were guilty of too much dropped ball and ill discipline.

And it wasn’t the 55th minute that the Tigers were set a light by a 55 metre kick return and try to Wallace.

The fullback stepped, fended and wriggled his way past five defenders to score the try of the day. Halfback Cameron Rameka kicked his third conversion for the lead 18-12.

It was soon after that Northcote asserted control and wrapped the final up with a try to Pa Sofaea and a penalty to Rameka.

Those stats show just how devasting Eddie Purcell was this year. Amazing talent that HAS NOT !!! been hyped up like Sonny BIll WIilliams - Because he's not real tall. But hes a muscle ball and could have a huge future in the NRL and the Warriors.

Will suprise many in the future.

I could see him having as much impact as a Sonny Fai in the future.
