An unchanged side from the side that had such a good win over Canterbury. The only one indoubt is Ben Kennedy, who has a shoulder injury. On paper we should win easily, but Cronulla always gives us a hard game, especially in Cronulla. I expect the Knights to win, but only after a real tussle. Kimmorley will play his absolute best football against Johns, which is something he always does. The two forward packs will go at each other all day as well. Cronulla are a good looking side, and this game could be the start of a revival for them, even if they lose a close one.

The only word that comes to mind when I see this team is 'young'. The oldest player would be either Quinn or Ryder, who would be no more than 23, tops. Several of the players are still in their teens. My guess would be that the average age is less than 21. They copped a hiding against Canterbury last week and will probably get the same treatment this week, but this team will get better and better as the season goes on. A good half the team will make the grade in firstgrade next season. Unfortunately, most will play for other clubs. It is good to see Michael Young and Blake Tremain-Cannon on the reserves bench. They are the best performing backs in the Flegg side, although I think Mercer has the most potential of the Flegg backs.

A home game for the boys, and they will need to find some home ground form after being smashed by the Bulldogs last week. Cronulla were also surprize losers, so we will have to see which team is able to recapture their early season form best. I think the scenichome ground at Tomaree will be the factor that will get the boys home.

Interesting that the starting second rowers from early in the season have both moved up to prop and the starting props have both been dropped to the bench. Snowden and Ison are the best two forwards at the club. Prolific try scoring centre Matthew Tredrea has been moved to lock, which could mean the forwards are going to try to play a very mobile game i think. If I were one of the outside backs i would take a book on the field so i had something to do in attack, because I think the attack is very much going to be around the forwards and halves this game.

Bronco,
My memories of the same game last year are pretty fresh I'm afraid. That game was the biggest ever loss by a Knights team and Kimmorley set a club point scoring record.
This year we have not only Kimmorley wanting to show the Knights they were wrong to let him go, but also Bird and Franze.
This game is shaping up as a bit of a grudge match, and I won't be comfortable about the result till I see it in the paper.

Ben Kennedy is very unlikely to start.
The most likely changes to the lineup will be Abraham to lock, Price to the second row and Matt Kennedy to the bench.
There is a small chance that Blake Mueller will get the nod ahead of Matt Kennedy.

It wouldn't surpise me to see you guys win all 4 grades. Our first grade problems are well documented and i can't see us turning it around this week. Our Premier League side has been playing poorly, though may be helped by Nick Graham and Dean Triester.
Our top of the table Flegg side has been badly knocked around by injuries. Out of the side are Russell Aitken and Stephen Ross, both 2002 Australian schoolboys. Also fullback David Simmons, who almost made the Aussie schoolboys side, and Flegg captain Jon Green.
The only positive is the inclusion of Kris Pyper, an under 18 backrower who finished last season in reserve grade. Strangely he has been named at 5/8. Watchout for our other Aussie schoolboy Keith Galloway in the pack, gee he hits hard in defence. This will be a real test of our depth.
Our SG Ball side is average, especially in defence and I expect you will smash at under 17 level.

I don't want to get into a 'our team is worse than your team' thing, but I'm not counting on any wins this week, although I hope we can win all four.

In first grade we should win if form means anything, but Kimmorley always plays his best game of the season against Newcastle. Most ex Newcastle players do, but Kimmorley lifts about five levels. I would say he is the only halfback who can truely say that he always outplays Johns head to head.

In Premier div we have gone with our youngest side ever. Well over half the team played Flegg last year, and most of the others played Flegg the year before. We never have a good reggies side because we always go for promising youngsters over experienced guys, but I'll consider it a bonus if we win a game this year. If they do win games it will be towards the end of the season when they have had a chance to reach their potential a bit more.

The Flegg side looked great for the trials and the first three games, but they have fallen in a heap over the last two weeks. This is a test for coach Rip Taylor, who is one of the best credentialled coaches ever, with literally dozens of country premierships under his belt. I expect the coach to produce something this week.

The Ball side has lost most of the starting forward pack to injuries, but two guys, Kade Snowden and Mitchell Ison, have moved from the second row to the front row and are looking like they will go on to bigger and better things. If Cronulla really are a poor defending side they will be torn to pieces by halfback Scott Dureau, who has every trick in the book.

Well 2 games gone and 2 to go, and its 1-1 so far. Newcastle won the SG Ball 42-28 but Cronulla came back in the Flegg and won a nail biter 31-30 thanks to a Kris Pyper field goal. I had no idea he possessed that much skill. With the side we fielded in Flegg, this is argueably their best win of the season. Did you go down to the games Roopy?
Anyway, the big one is on today, and i am starting to feel a bit more confident. We are practically at full strength, and on paper our pack look stronger than yours. Surely we are due for a win. There are many factors in our favour, but the one big factor against us is our form. All will be revealed soon.

Two games all, but we got the big one.

I can't make up my mind if having Kimmorley be less involved was a stroke of genius, or a stroke of madness. The other guys certainly lifted, but you lost the game. On the other hand, everyone should gel better next week, and Kimmorley and the other senior guys might be able to rely on some of the younger guys pulling their weight more.

Anyway, I was happy with lots of things about the Knights game;
1/ Our young forwards have stood up to another pack with big credentials. The young guys all look like clones of Josh Perry.

2/ Matt Gidley is back to his best.

3/ Mark Hughes has come back from injury far better than i thought he would. I had heard he had lost a lot of pace, but he looks to have stepped right back into the team like he was never out of it.

4/ Craig Hall is a godsend for us. We have put up with so many crappy wingers in the last few seasons I hate to think about them.

5/ Matty Parsons scored. Thank God that monkey is off everyones back. The boys probably lost the minor premiership last season because they tried so hard to put the big guy over the line for about the last 10 games.

I think Cronulla will win a lot more games than they lose this season now, they still have heaps of good players.
One thing I can't understand is how Beattie gets away with it. I have no problem with him putting in the niggle, but it is like the officials can't see him. He must have that invisabillity cloak of Harry Potter's I think. Buderus was spewing with the ref when Beattie was headbutting him in the scrums and the ref was looking right at it and couldn't see a thing wrong, and that little forearm he put right on Woolnough's nut was so blatant that just about anyone else would be booking a holiday on the Gold Coast, but you just know that Beattie will get off scot free. Josh Perry just has to look sideways and he is penalised, but Beattie can do as he pleases it seems.

I didn't get to the junior games, but i wish i had, it sounds like the Flegg game was a nail biter.

Roopy, I think the Sharks may have turned the corner too and their next game is in a fortnight against the Dragons at Kogarah. For some reason, Cronulla have their second bye next weekend but considering they were only just beaten by a premiership heavyweight yesterday, the local derby should be a cracker.

I agree with 'bash on Buderus. He's nothing short of a little cat & if it wasn't for Johns I have big doubts as to whether or not he'd have played any form of rep games outside of a country team.
