With all this doom and gloom about FTA dying won't this have a hugely negative effect on the next NRL FTA deal ?

If FTA have a less money to play with thier next offer could be lower than the last deal ?
Yeh mine just cut most of their newsrooms

nine only pay 120 million pa for out tv tv deal including origin

origin alone is worth probably up to 50 million pa on its own

It’s been speculated that the upcoming TV deal, or the next will be the pinnacle of broadcasting revenue which is why you’re seeing NRL clubs & the ARLC buying hotels and pubs/clubs to future proof themselves.

I think Canberra Raiders have an impressive real estate portfolio

Raiders have around 150 in property assets

roosters bought the whole block around their leagues club to do a high rise project one day

Cronulla own the ground the leagues club a commercial premises which is a gym and the Kareela gold club

But if advertising revenue is dropping surely that will effect what 9 or 7 can offer ?
Last year FTA advertising spending dropped by 11%...that will have a knock on effect with FTA offering 11% lower for NRL rights ?

It's literally life or death time. I have companies that were 80% FTA spends now doing about 10% that former volume.

I'm not doubting you. It's more I doubt the competence of those running FTA TV networks to adapt to changing times, because to date, they have shown they haven't. In fact they show their resistance to it.

That's why the TV anti-siphoning legislation holds back sports from maximising its revenues from broadcast rights as certain things have to be available and/or exclusive to FTA broadcasters. It effectively props up the FTA TV cartel.

In fairness to FTA they were offering streaming long before most streaming services via thier apps.

They claim that FTA BVOD is the fastest growing area, about 30% of programming is watched on catch up, up from about 3% a few years ago. This doesn't help sport though, it's more for news, MAFS and that sort of thing.
