Games that are Ad free during play though? AFL with Quarters.

Only Pay TV knows what the breakdown is for the subscription based. They aren't going to throw money away, So there must be some value in it.

TV doesn't not setting the schedule will limit FTA raise. On the flipside expanded NRLW should add value.

It is $115m now. $160m should be achieved there - assuming that they stay at 3 games and get their exclusive games they are after.

PayTV side is where it comes tricky. Extra game but if they lose the FTA game and PNG market itself brings no subscriptions in for the local networks. NZ doesn't have competition now for their rights too but $400m on that

I am in the camp of I believe the NRL figures reported was cash.

So this deal started at $409m.
This deal $560m
Add in International series being sold.

Of course contra still added to that

It beats the cash part of AFL. That is with AFL including Telstra in that.

Expansion achieved bringing in new revenue streams, going early has paid off if it plays out like that
Afl media deal is $571mill cash avg.
Thats the bar,
needs to be over $600mill cash avg to say he got a decent deal this time.

It’s funny then why the 7 guy being quoted in the above article was so positive at the prospect of covering NRL games “we would be silly not to put our hats in the ring”…: guess he must love losing money

Of course he would, I haven't seen them say they want every game

I doubt their existing contract allows them to broadcast NRL and AFL at the same time.

Monday night on ch7 solves that but PVL has said he prefers one FTA.

Even if they went down that route, You usually get GC v Newcastle or something during Origin.

On both FTA and Fox these games lose money for FTA. Which cancels out the benefits of selling the game to ch7

Surprised ch10 aren’t going hard. They are a bit of a non entity these days and nrl would be a game changer for them. $150mill would probably win it for them. Throw in a Saturday or Monday night game for 4 games a week on fta. Then sell origin and test football separately to 7 and aim for $180-200mill fta.

That counts Telstra in that and the FTA side should never be even close to the same value
It does but then we have nz rights as our extra where they include Telstra as theirs.
fta value comparison, Even when you consider the value of origin and test football?

so don’t have Monday night games prior to the 3 Origin games and maybe the last week of the season prior to the finals - still at least 20 games a year…. Origin is typically split round / plenty of byes anyway … Fox/ DAZN seems to manage

Monday night on ch7 solves that but PVL has said he prefers one FTA.

I told you what he said

Why wouldn’t you include the NZ rights ? We got one ..hopefully soon to be two teams playing in the competition there and it’s actually in respect of someone paying a fee to broadcast the games…Im not sure exactly of the relevance of the Telstra money

The AFL can happily include their NZ deal as well,,, I’m sure someone would be showing it somewhere over there

But
No take off $71 m pa for Telstra- which ain't a TV network or PAY Streamer
So $500 million is the bar
you got me 'thinkin' since , lets go back to the Mobile only rights ( they had a good lock on so you couldn't stream your TV , don't know nowday's, but sell mobile rights only as a side deal any telco that wants them..

Becisse we are comparing Australian tv rights values, nz is a nice bonus add in for us, like telstra is for afl.

Australian tv rights value alone is around $550mill cash (educated guessing as no way of confirming telstra cash payment). Nrls tv rights in australia need to match if not better, then add in nz rights and hopefully we’ll better their $571mill total.
Don’t forget traditionally our announced rights have included radio rights value where as theirs is extra to what’s announced. (Around $10mill)

NZ is actual money , ya know.. cash.
Telstra , which is not even a media organisation, they're telecommunications ..
is annual upgrades to Wi Fi & internet cable maintenance at Docklands that they say is worth 50 mill pa but is worth about $300K

So is telstra. But if you want to compare apples with apples, ie what Australian tv companies will pay for each code then neither are relevant beyond the total media deals both codes achieve.

you think telstra are paying afl $50mill a year cash to upgrades afl infrastructure? lol more like $20mill for for digital media hosting rights which they earn from in advertising.

its an in kind contribution to a $ value so its irrelevant what anyone thinks it is

No we aren’t !
We are comparing the broadcast rights amounts of two sporting competitions …apples for apples if you include whatever the AFL gets out of NZ for showing their games there ..

If one competition now benefits from having the gumption to take a risk and establish themsleves internationally through expansion than good luck to them …

I appreciate this is a difficult mindset for an English Super League fan to overcome, but expanding your competition internationally can lead to positive outcomes

If 7 get origin, it means nine won’t be talking about it from round one, and those mid-season games will have a bit more importance
