Because as with any of these comparisons it is apple and Oranges.

NRL on ch9 has the same game on every market

Ch7 show different games in every market. So very few games are actually across the nation.

As I said, ch9 doesn't have that. Which in keeps them strong in certain markets and weak in others.

To my point before, If they want to get viewers in these other states to watch their stuff. Like the Block then talking about NRL won't do it.

So they do things like maybe run a promotion on Today etc to interest the AFL states.

You don't think ch10 for example would do the same thing? Remembering a few months ago they had 1k total viewers in Perth for an early morning news service.

That is FTA and their cross promotion

If you think want to accept Channel Nine’s crappy treatment/coverage of the game then go for your life. You’re the one positioning that into an apples and oranges comparison because you can’t accept that the League have been dudded by Channel 9 for a long long time from a promotional/coverage aspect. They have held the game back.

The game has hopefully (so long as that article is correct) reached the point where they shouldn’t blithely accept a station promoting their main competitor more than the product that they actually have. It’s ridiculous whatever the inclinations/reasons of that station.

Also, the money given by Channel Nine is fine and is of secondary concern. Any increase in the rights are going to (or should) come from subs/streaming. So the main goal from FTA is getting the best coverage/promotion and that surely isn’t coming from 9 and that is point. It’s time to give somebody else a go.

What crappy treatment are you talking about?

Hard to debate when it is vague statements

Of course and are ch7 going to scrap AFL to show NRL?

That leaves ch10, who doesn't have a regional network long term locked in.

It is easy to say the service isn't good enough but you need somewhere to take it too, Australia isn't flush with these huge options.

Even less when the country is split between 2 major codes.

Lets say ch10 takes over next deal, Their morning news pulls less than 1k in Perth. Ramming NRL down their throat won't change that.

So do you demand them show NRL only? Or do what is best for their bottom line so they continue to be able to produce the best content and pay the bills?

Nines coverage is rubbish, I have to watch the sound down as soon as Gus or Joey start whinnying ( usually in the first 5 minutes)

But as you point out, what choice do the NRL have ? 7 are maxed out, 10 have no money...9 are basically bidding against themselves.

The NRLs best bet would be to do short term deals and hope that soon a streaming service shows interest, you only need 1 more interested party to push the price up.

Has he though, or is that just you in denial/delusion?
The good thing is afl don’t hide it away so we’ll know for sure as each year passes.
Well anyone who says afl will soon take over rugby league in qld is obviously a massive liar

the fact the tv deal is lumped in with stadium improvements should tell you they have something to hide

I have watched ch7's cricket
F1 on ch 10

All FTA coverage is poor, It is needed for the casual fan. Thankifully most games are on Fox also

We need ch10 to go back to a sport only FTA ideally

You dont understand the difference between a bs prediction intended to divert attention from suns and an actual media conference confirming a multi billion $ deal? Sheesh.

do you believe Vlandys was telling the truth when he said melbourne was in line for another nrl club? Or was he lying to divert attention from afls news about club 19? In which case should we trust him that nrl has actually landed a $2billion tv deal or believe he was lying about that as well?

see how stupid you sound?

it’s a media deal, telstra has always been included in both codes announcements.

Defend your hero all you want if vlandys claimed nrl was taking over in melb he would’ve been mocked by all and sundry

why is afl including spending on marvel as part of a tv deal ? It’s got zero to do with tv

all this bs you said about gill he is just a used car salesman

Because its always been announced a media deal inc Telstra. They havent done anything different than before. We dont know how much TV is paying. They have announced $571 mill a year is cash. That includes Telstra cash.

No before the Telstra payments were part of afl games on Telstra app and for running afl websites

and they were fairly small so could be ignored

Where did you get that figure ? To my knowledge ch 10 offer was never made public but it was an underwhelming bid significantly lower than ch 7. The AFL laughed in thier face and slammed the door.

I'll stick by my original comment. 10 have no money

Are they, were they? Where do you get $150mill from?
Deal is $643mill a year total.
$571mill cash.
$530mill ish will be TV cash. $20millish TV contra.
That leaves $40mill cash Telstra $53mill ish in kind work. Total Telstra around $93mill.
