yes the full amount clearly is there, which is my point. tv deals dont ever get announced as cash only!

Except in ch9's own papers

or News Limited

or ABC

or TV Blackbox

The only part of the deal that has confirmation, is all announced as the cash figure

How some news agencies decided to report it is one thing, the reality is it was announced in its entirety. Cash and contra. Hence why some news articles reported it in full. No one releases numbers on cash only. It only makes them look worse than they are.

Contra isn't cash though.

Announcing is good for ego's only, Players want to be paid with cash.

So you are suggesting rather than announce a $2.15billion tv deal the NRL has announced a $2billion tv deal. Why exactly would they? It makes them look worse than they are. No tv deal for AFL or NRL has ever been announced in that way before or since.

A rugby league fan would give the sport he claims to love the benefit of the doubt

People watch TV more at night so those games are worth more to broadcasters. At least one party will bid for Monday night football and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we end up with night games from Thursday to Monday.

As for scheduling, right now you can play on a Sunday and back up the next Saturday, so you can easily back up on Sunday from a Monday. With three games on a Sunday, it’s not difficult to spread the two previous Monday night teams around.

Would a Sunday night game be more valuable to broadcasters?

7 and 9 will only buy Sunday night football if they have both codes, which is unlikely but you never know. Foxtel wants slots that are attractive to viewers schedules and without clashes. In that regard, Sunday and Monday are pretty similar. There is some benefit for them though in steering away viewers from FTA on Sunday night.

Would be cheaper too, They already have the pre and post show going, Can charge higher for program sponsor as an added bonus

Ideally we’d have
Saturday 7.30pm fta
Sunday 2pm fta
Sunday 4pm ptv
sunday 6pm ptv

I can see if ch9/ Stan or ch10/paramount win there is a lot more flexibility on which time slots are fta and which are on streaming stand aline as they aren’t competing between fta and ptv Like currently.

"Look worse than they are"that's your opinion and yes others.Doesn't mean its 100% spot on.
Fact: if the NRL had delayed all negotiations til 2022 ,(when there was a hell of a lot more clear air re COVID), expansion in 2023 would simply not have happened. The AFL did their deal in 2022 fortuitously but they were not expanding soon.
The NRL had Foxtel done and later 9 deal in December 2021 (negotiated 2 months after Dolphin's admittance announced) so they knew their finances and were able to confidently expand in Oct 2021 via the new team.
And guess what, the inclusion of the Dolphins now has been a marketing win for the NRL, a TV boon for 9 and Foxtel, and a shot across the bows of AFL and its geographic intent in Qld.
It has opened up further pathways for youngsters.
They(AFL) did not anticipate the impact of the Phins ,because they believed (as you do 100% of the time )every announcement they make on domination etc is gospel. They got a reality check.
The early timing of the deals underpinned the Dolphin's entry, it has encouraged the NRL to expand further early .It has spiked the interest of TV stations (the impact ) and as a result given a further boost for an even better TV deal.None of this seems to enter your constant negativity,

As they say “show me the money”!
Personally I’d rather have seen the nrl get an extra $150mill a year and wait a bit longer for expansion, hell we’d have had enough money to go straight to 18 clubs in 2025 If they’d landed an afl size deal.

It really is the simple, We have expansion due to the TV deal being done. Announced actual figures not including Stadium upgrades, Which has gotten everyone's expectations out of reality
