I don't know about that, the last two years we have been neck and neck over $$$.

Which assumes other incomes in the licensing category stood still while broadcast grew. Thats a big assumption. And we dont really know where they were in the first place

If Sky low ball the NRL, it may be a good chance to trial going direct with Watch NRL in NZ.
Surely there is a NEP equivalent who would produce the 12 warriors games at a competitive price.

But according to you they can’t afford to be paying 70 million more with their current profits and the state of the advertising market

Where did I say they can't pay more?

once again comprehension isn't a strong suit of yours.

What I said was they won't have an open cheque book.

No one is in a position to get into to bidding war to get anyone to pay overs.

So there will be an increase but a $450m to a $500m jump being just over 10% on a 5 year deal is on par with inflation which goes with almost every deal signed across this period.

Next deal we will be paying $50 or more for Kayo. So hence will cover any extra they are paying

3 extra teams plus the full value of the dolphins
Women’s origin
U19 origin
Pacific cup

For only a 70 million increase over a deal which everyone says was a poor one ?

And yet the afl are claiming a 50 percent increase in theirs ?

Maths doesn’t compute

Because AFL are using Stadium upgrades.

Take that out of it and TV are paying far less

Timing is everything.

Signing a reduced deal during Covid, may have just f**ked us.
I was surprised AFL went for a 7 year deal 2 years out. Looks pretty genius right about now.

NRL is still undervalued so I expect we will see an increase, just not as big as WB is predicating (he's saying 40-50% extra). My guesstimate is 15-20% on the current $400mill a year deal. Landing somewhere around $450-$470mill a year.

Cmon 450 million for a 20 team comp

Did adding a Perth team means the money went down ?

Assuming it was undervalued then ten percent covers just that

Let alone inflation for 10 years or the extra content

500 is the absolute minimum and that’s still a bad result

from next year AFL are getting $570mill cash. How much is Telstra cash is unknown but its quite possible the TV alone component from Fox and Ch7 is in the $520-530mill cash a year avg range.

Again unless we are bringing in Qtrs and making NRLW a summer comp 80% of the comp is a loss maker.

That is why huge dollars aren't possible

I'm being conservative based on what the industry is saying about advertising, the looming gambling add ban etc. End of day it will largely come down to competition not content amount. If there are two or more serious bidders it will go up, possibly quite a bit. If there aren't then it wont.

re content expansion is largely happening on A) PNG being funded cost positive to the NRL B) Perth adding the 18th viable club they need for the 9th game with Australian increased coverage. How much is that worth? Probably the 10% or so. Remember Dolphins admission was only worth $20mill a year or 5% of the overall deal value.

on the DAZN take over, hopefully they do and they get interested in SL and French RL as well

Realistically you'd need 250k+ subscribers in NZ to earn more than the current Sky deal. Is there that many NZ RL fans willing to pay $15 a month?

Nrl finds itself in’s very good position

New cashed up owners at Foxtel will be bidding to keep their top product. Foxtel isn’t a viable platform without league

Stan are going to get the rights or make them pay for it

Nrl deal doesn’t even reflect the real value of the dolphins yet

Let alone what Perth png and nz2 are worth to Australian and overseas tv

Ad rates are largely irrelevant for subscription tv which pays 80 percent of the deal

Nine are getting origins so they are paying 60 million for the club comp vs seven paying 170 million

The last seperate figure we had was $300m or $50m a season.

That was last TV deal when NRL.com showed games roughly 2018.

This next deal goes 13 years past that and also is where advertisers are going now.

So on that basis Telstra should be paying a decent slab more or AFL would take the internet revenue like NRL has done

As for the upgrades the Vic Govt tipped in $120m. Usually these are dollar for dollar.

So we are looking anything up to $100m

putting TV share at $470m. Which is where you predicted the NRL would be next deal - this seems more realistic given the state of TV in this country atm
