Reading not your strong point

I said if nine don’t pay a good amount then offering Fox the streaming will

I think Fox would pay 20 million pa to stream origin leaving nine to pay 130 million for their current package

That’s on top of stan and maybe seven plus bidding for the pay tv rights

This isn’t going to go well for you

So why would channel 9 pay the same IF they lose their big events? Afterall these are where they make the money

Sometimes you need to think before you type

Having an official say publicly they are open to it suggest they do. They wouldn’t be open to it if they didn’t have the funds and definitely wouldn’t publicly state they are open to it if they couldn’t afford it. They wouldn’t also be aware of how much it would cost.

But none of that has anything to do with splitting up the rights.

Keep up.

This is from 2023 and clearly mention Origin

You know inflation / economic growth over the five years of the last tv deal which most people on here said was a bad deal

People saying the last tv deal was poor and now also saying with 20 teams the nrl is going to struggle to get much more than last time (10 percent up)

Because they aren't adding 3 teams to the current 27 round 28 week regular season.

In that case it would be a huge win.

We currently have 209 games. 22 rounds at 10 games a week is 220 games.

From that you are losing Broncos, Storm, Souffs etc that rate well replaced with PNG, Perth and possibly NZ 2.

Not only will these teams not rate as well as the games missing above but the production costs go up.

This is in a time when ch7 looks to of biten too much off with AFL.

Ch10 is still a basket case.

Ch9 is going through leadership change now so will no doubt be looking at whether RL is a good investment.

Driving the FTA section down.

Possibly, it’s possible it holds steady or even increases especially if driven by the fact that other FTA channels are open to bidding as well.

The top Fox games pulls 400-500k.
Currently.

Could see increases if Origin was live on Fox Sports, especially given you can access Fox Sports now on Kayo.

The 400-500k who are RL fans are the ones at pubs, clubs etc watching it in a group. These people aren't counted now and won't be under this move. As the majority of whom won't changing their viewing
What this based on?

The casual/passing fans who are the target group for these big events and hence the only reason sports need FTA. Will still watch so the net result is still a negative for all except FTA that gets the same result for cheaper.
Incorrect. Fox would see an increase. As it’s 50% of the market’s share preference for watching Rugby League. That’s a lot of people switching on ch 9 only for Origins and GF day, that won’t be tuning in if given a second option.

They will cut two rounds and still see an increase over 30 percent

Dazn is cashed up

Just imagine you just bought a pay tv network for 1.5 billion and your best product was up for negotiation with other people interested

Channel seven / seven plus said they are Interested in the nrl but fta isnt so important given its 20 percent of the total

Seven has persistently only put in bids for Origin - nothing more - since 2002. They wont put up enough to get streaming away from Nine/Kayo

There’s an article quoting them directly posted previously

You should talk to the person from seven who made the quote and tell him he’s wrong

“On a new episode of Mumbrella’s one-on-one podcast, Gereurd Roberts, group managing director of Seven Digital, discussed the media giant’s big plans for cricket and AFL – which includes streaming rights – and said this is only the beginning.

When asked if Seven would look at an opportunity to bring other big Australian sporting codes on board, such as the NRL or A-Leagues competitions, Roberts responded: “Yeah, 100%.”

lol

16:53 - its all very non committal and doesnt talk about specificly bidding for anything

"You said that theres not a lot of competition in streaming right now, um, with obviously seeing Stan Sport - theyve expanded a lot with what they're doing- there's obviously Kayo, um, their constantly expandng what they're doing- with what 7plus is doing with AFL and Cricket is this you scratching the surface, like you know, thinking big here. Is it entirely possible that 7plus could be the home of other major sports whether it be NRL or Aleague down the line?"

"yeah. 100%.
I think that the, you know, one of the things, you know, we sort of talk a lot and you know at the up fronts we talked about the content pillars on 7plus and you know how the broadcast falls through so all that amazing content becomes a 7plus from broadcast plus fast, just sort of, you know, doing two things - one -its capturing the migration of audience from broadcast to streaming but its also giving younger audiences a newer relationship with seven. So thats the interesting thing because of the younger demographics and we see some of the young audiences coming in, building a relationship with Seven through 7plus. So we capture a new and younger audiences-which is great."

Have you ever made one positive post about any nrl tv deal ?

The article says they will bid for it. You said seven has never bid for it

Helps to build competitive tension against the incumbents

Who knows maybe a compelling bid for origin streamed with Fox sports for 50 million pa?

Of course they have Warburton said as much. Hence my comment about NRL needing to want to split the rights up

DAZN are cashed up but there needs to be bidding war for the price to be really pushed up. Lack of options for that

I wasnt aware that it was mandatory to be a yes man for vlandys and yourself.

The article DOESNT say they will bid for it. It says they will look for an oportunity to add other rights.
And Ive specifically quote the relative podcast that shows its all speculative.
