but the counterargument is the larger tv audiences and marque events like Origin for NRL. Does the extra ad opportunity mean a lot to PTV?

Yes but look at Origin.

It is good for 3.5m people.

It is normally low scoring 20-14. scoreline or so So maybe 4-5 ads during play?

The 20 or so ads in halftime.

You have more AFL FTA games than NRL. The extra game a round closes the difference.

Ch9 had only 4 exclusive games of NRL
Ch7 has a couple each round depending on the market.

So all of this matters when boards are deciding what figure is fair. RL needs more exclusive games on both FTA and PTV to get more money

Lets say 1.5m people

you are looking at 20 goals atleast going off most scores. 20-25 ads there

You are adding 1/4 and 3/4 time to the 1/2 time ads.

As for PTV.

What is TV ratings difference 100k a game?

Both are no ads in play. But again 1/4 and 3/4 time for AFL which closes the gap If that is reflective of extra subs NRL might provide.

We should know more as Fox is doing their own figures that are hopefully more accurate

FTA AFL is def more valuable to than NRL. More games, more ads (but then there's the value of origin, some say $30mill a year)
PTV NRL is def more valuable. Larger subscription base, longer season, more exclusive games (historically), Internationals

Interesting comment re 7 finally getting digital rights. Didnt realise they didnt have that before. Another value add Ch9 has had from NRL for some time.

Also very interesting that 7 will replace its AFL Saturday night game with a VFL local state game. Maybe Ch9 should show a live SL game on a Saturday night for those without Fox!

We don't know which is more subs. Certainly not on the new setup. There is more need for SA and WA to get Fox now and that is what Fox would be hoping.

Does any RL fan not have Fox?

Logically you'd expect NRl to have more subs given the substantially bigger audiences on Fox and Kayo for NRL.

Only the cheap arse ones! Kayo is the best value streaming service around if you like RL and other sports.

Only VFL games in Victoria. WAFL and SANFL in WA and SA. QLD and NSW either VFL or movies or some rubbish.

Yes but we have had Sat night for example over there to be on FTA.

Fox would be expecting the numbers to lift.

Like I said earlier. NRL games at best sat at 400k last year. You are looking at 300k for AFL

If they get more uptake in SA and WA for example than like FTA it is more valuable.

The areas NRL are adding are great for the International game and if we can get a decent 6 nations when PNG is good.

Than that will be enormous for test footy rights, short term might take a hit depending on the season format

“NRL TV broadcast rights race is heating up, with Channel 7’s billionaire owner Kerry Stokes signing off on a new rugby league show this year in opposition to free-to-air rival Channel 9.”

“Network heavyweights – chief content officer Brook Hall, director of news Anthony De Ceglie and director of sport Chris Jones — have returned home from Las Vegas where they spent several days networking with NRL powerbrokers.
The plan is to launch a Monday or Tuesday night show mid-year before State of Origin for eight weeks on a trial basis, live on 7 Mate and 7 Plus before a replay later on the network’s main channel.
It has been approved by billionaire owner Kerry Stokes, despite his passion for AFL”

Depending on ratings, the hope is to run the show again during the finals and then weekly from next year.
The likes of Corey Parker, Denan Kemp, Willie Mason are under consideration for the panel that will include two senior NRL journalists.
Jones was reluctant to comment when approached by your columnist in regards to the show.
“Travelling to Las Vegas was a great experience,” he said. “We learnt a lot and harbour ambitions to have a stronger NRL voice moving forward.”

This masthead has previously revealed plans under the network’s former CEO, James Warburton, to make a pitch for the NRL broadcasting rights, in particular State of Origin.
And nothing has changed.
ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys spoke recently about the possibility of the NRL selling the rights to Origin separate from the premiership and finals.

Just because we don’t have the rights now doesn’t mean we can’t do a rugby league show,” said one source from Channel 7.
“It’s like putting a mark in the ground to show people we can have a genuine voice in the game and produce good NRL content.”
Rivals Channel 9 have changes planned for this year.
The network is turning its popular podcast Freddy and the Eighth podcast into a midweek TV show.
Brad Fittler and Joey Johns will join host Danika Mason on Wednesday nights.

Stokes would be well aware that WA is getting an NRL team whether he wants it or not, and all the extra Rugby League related events that that will bring to the state. So why not start positioning Seven to take advantage of that now.
He was working against the Perth bears but he’s not your dyed in the wool fumbler

Sponsored souths five million when they had been kicked out and needwd to show the court they were financially viable

Between seven / Fox potentially bidding for origin together with Stan v Fox for the pay tv rights they should blow 600 million pa out of the water which would be more than the fumblers get from seven / Foxtel

Nine’s NRL coverage is underpinned by an ecosystem that is connected and allows advertisers to maximise their campaign execution by weaving it across Australia’s most powerful marketing platform. By utilising Nine’s talent and Wide World of Sports content, all audiences across the ecosystem are delivered in a where, how and when manner allowing brands to engage seamlessly. This year will see Ford and Red Bull join returning partners Harvey Norman, Telstra, McDonalds, Westpac, Sportsbet, Youi Insurance, Kia and sponsors Chemist Warehouse, Isuzu UTE and Rexona.

Seven is proud to welcome back Toyota, McDonald's, AAMI and Harvey Norman as broadcast partners of Australia’s #1 winter sport. They will be joined by other leading brands as broadcast sponsors, including Google, Coles, Sportsbet, Bunnings, Chemist Warehouse, Industry Super Funds, Hostplus, CBUS, Telstra, NAB, Asahi Beverages, Uber Eats, OMO Ultimate, Cash Converters, ColgatePalmolive, BWS and Virgin Australia. Other brands that have signed on with major AFL packages or as local market sponsors include Seek, HBF, Disney, Bupa and Complete Home Filtration.

NRL podcasts not linked to Fox or ch9 can't use footage. Ch7 will be the same so sadly this limits how well it will go

Can you quote the posts, or are you just lying like usual?

He reads what he wants to read.

I am in the camp that ch7 can't bid for everything. Origin yes BUT I am not sure value for NRL is there for the rest of the FTA deal if they split up like that.
