Might as well get over it now fellas. There are no halves on the market, so Brooks will be given an extension. Don't bitch & moan. You'd imagine it will be significantly reduced to what he is on this year. He & Wakeham are being given a chance to form a combination this year & IMO there's nothing better out there, so give them 2 years. Wakeham 300k a year, Brooks 450k a year. Doooeeee won't play again next year & I don't like his chances of returning after that. So let's just ride with what we've got get behind them & hopefully we'll have some younger players step up within the next 3 years.

Yep, it doesn’t seem like Brooks is going anywhere, but for me, it just shows how important our game is entwined to Brook’s form, really since he’s been here, like all 7’s I guess.

Hopefully he or the coaches have worked out what makes him tick. He should be on some sort of incentive contract to ensure his consistency.

I also think Wakeham could be a star, I think we all thought we needed a name player, but he is looking like a great find. I just hope they don’t treat him like a mug and give everything to Brooks.

That cowboys game makes me think we can do ok with Brooks in the team as a passenger. By passenger I don’t mean the everyday low pressure halves duty’s that he’s good at ..eg 5th tackle bombs, damaging tackling, basic running and passing and his 5th tackle kicks to outside backs. If he can keep those rolling and leave the high risk “poetry” combos with Bulla, short kick offs, repeat set kicks and cut out passes to wakeham, things expected of halves (Bulla’s got great touch with his in goal kicks too) we could still end up in mid to top half of the 8. When things are rolling Brooks can still pull out the odd perfect repeat set kicks, in fact on the very odd occasion when we have the momentum and are ahead he’s almost as good as Benji. Just don’t expect that or rely on him when things tighten up, or if what he does decides a game. Also Api revealed in the presser that Brooks is doing some kind of unseen organising that’s vital. I’ll buy that since he said it.
I will venture to say wakeham will step up this year, to the point that by the end of the year, if they under value him $$ wise compared to Brookes he’ll be looking elsewhere. Benji won’t allow that to happen tho. I can see wakeham being Benjis pet project and an extension of himself, although wakehams more mentally tough and more in control of his emotions than Benji.

Yeah looks like we have tried it on with every half either off contract or ones we could get out of contract with no success so looks like it will be Brooks and Wakeham. Unless Brooks goes for the ultimate screw job and takes a deal in the super league and leaves us hanging.

We will still need at least a back up halfback. The Warriors have 4 on their books or someone like Trindall from the sharks would be great if we could get them.

I still hope that Hunt will ditch the Dragons for us, we would need to win quite a few more games to make us attractive enough though

I will also add, imo Brooks has been the problem, hopefully he (and Wakeham) are now the solution, as I’m not sure what other tools we could give them, no pressure lol

I think we just need to repeat that last performance or similar (not possible to repeat it) against the Raiders. I’m just not sure how bad the cowboys were tho

Agree, I think the Raiders game will tell us a lot about where we are and where we are going this season.

Hunt would b the ideal recruit for us however we have buckleys if the satanic serial bullshitter Gould wants him as we are incapable of competing with the weasel for elite players & coaches.

No doubt we r stuck with an undeserving Brooks.I don’t understand the urgency to re-sign him as no other club will b rushing to sign him.

Cronulla have just upgraded a few players and let Connor Tracey go, I am sure if Braydon Trindall was given a shot at a regular first grade spot he would come over.

Trindall is at this point the only ready for first grade quality half avaialble that you would not have to break the bank for.

I think the only rush is he appears to literally be the last half available and if he decides to go elsewhere we will be left with an empty chair.

Which is itself an indictment on the club that we are facing that prospect.

Not a chance Brooks signs for 400k. 800k minimum is my guess.

Let's say Brooks is indeed on 900k. I know it's reported that he's on anywhere from 800k to 3.5 Billion but let's just go with 900. There's no way we could get him for anything less than 600. A 30% pay cut is significant but he could stomach that if he doesn't want to leave home. 50% on the other hand is completely different. Half your wages is just not going to happen

I think the best thing would be a two year deal on 650k p year with a third year option in clubs favour.

The thing is he is coping a 30-50% pay cut wherever he goes. I think it is just a matter of whether he is happy to take the pay cut with us or try his hand somewhere else. I can't see any club paying more than 600K for him

He would also get the 10 year discount with us so I guess we could offer a bit more but it wouldn't be more that on the salary cap

The club & Brooks should sever ties but I’ve no doubt he will b re-signed.Although imo he is only worth the minimum wage as a backup/depth half I expect he will get closer to the 650k u r suggesting. It will b a monumental blunder to re-sign him & I look forward to more of the same ineptitude after the degenerate sheens joyously announces he has re-signed his pet.

Sheens did mention in the presser? it would also be a test of how much Brooks wants to stay at the club. Hopefully he means if he’s offered peanuts
I’m thinking $400k max

I think Brooks raping and pillaging of the cap for his own personal gold mine and offering near zilch in return should be taken into account when choosing a figure

It’s difficult to verbalise isn’t it…”Brooks is on more than a million dollars this year!!” FK

My dream scenario:

Offer Adam Reynolds $1.2m a year for 2 years. He is under contract for next year at brisbane but with the likes of Mam, Cobbo, Haas, Walsh etc coming off soon they may let him go a year early. Play the 'I want to move back home' card.

If you could pull that off then Id happily keeps Brooks on around $500k. I actually think theyd work well together.

I would be stoked with that. You could replace Reynolds with Ben Hunt I reckon with the same success
