I caught a glimpse of the Dallas-Miami game a few days ago and they were playing on a baseball field, almost half the ground was dirt. What's the deal?

I don't think Miami Dolphins are the only NFL team who operate out of the one stadium combining the gridiron and baseball game on the one field.
.
But for Miami I think (I am a Dolphins supporter) the teams are the same that is the same team plays Baseball and NFL - same players. Well that's what it looks like. Man they SUCK. Following the Dolphins is like following the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

I thought the 49er's and San Francisco Giants also played out of the same stadium?

I watched the game. The Dolphins showed some glimpses and great play but there wasa few too many turnovers and the defense was on the field for too long in the first half. Seemed to have some pretty major problems with the centre at times as well

Oakland, 49ers, Miami and the Chargers all play on baseball fields from memory.

By about week 8 they get rid of the baseball diamonds though because that season is over.

Why do they share grounds with baseball teams? I thought that a baseball stadium would be terrible for viewing NFL.

To be honest I dont know the definate answer, but I'm guessing it's simply due to the fact that their city only has one stadium capable of holding that many people.

American stadiums are generally fairly mobile though I think, so they can roll the stands right in to make it feel like a custom built football stadium.

This definately isnt my area of expertise though so someone might prove all that wrong

Dolphin Stadium (as the name suggests) was purpose built for football, although it has undergone renovations to accommodate baseball. The Florida Marlins are playing there in anticipation of getting a new arena built (in fact, the owner has threatened to move the team unless he gets one). It's owned by Wayne Huizenga, who owns the Dolphins.

The Vikings play at the Metrodome, as do the Minnesota Twins since there was only one stadium large enough to contain football and baseball crowds. The Stadium was purpose-built for football, apparently the sight lines for baseball are awful. The Twins are moving to a purpose-built stadium in 2010. It's owned by the City Of Minneapolis.

The Oakland Raiders and Athletics share a stadium designed to cater to both football and baseball, although it appears the A's will be building new stadiums in the near-ish future. The Coliseum is owned by the City of Oakland and Almeda County.

Candlestick park used to be used by the Giants as well but they have moved to AT&T park up in the city.

I know that, but its like the Sharks playing at Brookvale while they are having astadium built....

It would be tough to swallow as a fan.

Also, the new meadowlands stadium will start with both the Jets and Giants. There is a clause for one team to move out after 15 years of the lease.

When the Jets play there it's called "Meadowlands", when the Giants play it's called "Giants Stadium".

ok, as far as I knew it was "Giants Stadium" at the "Meadowlands".....

Either way it would still suck to be a fan of either team in that case.
