Hopefully Phillippoussis is fully fit to take on Federer later tonight. That should be a great match, and could basicallly wrap the tie up for us if the scud wins. Lets hope he can manage the victory...

What a great couple of days in Aus Davis Cup history.

First that thrilling 5 set win over the pairing of Federer and Rosset. Federer folded like a cheap pack of cards, Arthurs and Woody just held it together and put us in the driving seat with us leading 2-1.

Then today, what a match!!!!! Roger came out to serve for the march in the 3 set and he was broken, Lleyton went o n to win the tiebreak and get back in the game. Lleyton got the sole break in the 4th and won that 7-5. Once again Roger was our saviour, he folded again, 6-1 in the 5th.

What a win, greatest I have ever seen, and Lleyton also said that winning this match was better than winning Wimbledon and the US.

Lleyton is a great Aussie, and he lives for the team play of Davis Cup. Solo sports are all good, but there is nothing like winning inside a team environment, letting your mate win something for you. Thats why I love Davis Cup.

Looking forward to seeing the Poo's match later tonight. 7 need to get there act together and show it live, I know its a dead rubber but there are more important things than "Shanghai Noon" or whatever is on right now.

Mark Philippoussis didn't play in the 5th rubber. Todd Woodbridge played against Michel Kratochvil, but I will not reveal anything more due to the delayed coverage on Channel 7.

------

For anyone fortunate to watch yesterday afternoon's doubles encounter would have been absolutely satisfied. It was an epic 5-set thriller. I was virtually on the edge of my seat (extremely similar to last night's elimination final I attended at Aussie Stadium). Wayne Arthurs had an absolutely superb game, excluding the first game of the first set. The Aussies won 4-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in chilly & windy conditions. It was a courageous fightback, & it displayed so much emotion.

------

All hail King Lleyton :D What an extrordinary comeback, 2 sets to love down, to win in an epic, 5 set marathon. It was one of Lleyton's greatest wins of his career, overcoming Roger Federer 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1. The overall match summary in terms of statistics was pretty much even, but the never-say-die attitude of the c'mon tennis star/hero ensured that all Australian tennis fans would have something to smile & be proud of. Thanks to Lleyton's miraculous comeback, Australia has guaranteed a spot in the final & currently lead 3 rubbers to 1 in the semi final. In a courtside interview, Lleyton said, "This beats the hell out of winning Wimbledon and the US Open". It was great to see such excitement & jubilation from the Aussie team. Australia will most likely face Spain in the final, which will prove a great test (but we should not underestimate the Argentina team, as they may pull off an upset).

Lleyton Hewitt - love him or hate him, he is a champion. That was a magnificent comeback in anyone's language.

Australia have won their semi final over Switzerland 3 rubbers to 2. Todd Woodbridge retired in the 5th rubber against Michel Kratochvil. Michel won the first set 6-4, & then Todd retired.

------

Juan Carlos Ferrero (World Number 1) has been defeated by Agustin Calleri in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-1. It was a very convincing win to Agustin. Virtually all tennis fans wrote off the Argentines, but to their credit they have silenced the critics. I personally didn't give them much of a chance, & it just goes to show you should never underestimate any opposition.

------

Spain will face Australia in the Final in November after Carlos Moya defeated Gaston Gaudio 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Carlos just came out on fire, knowing the importance of this rubber, & there was little wonder why he won the first 4 consecutive games. He wasn't afraid of coming into the net, & his big forehand forced Gaston into making multiple errors. Overall, it was a pretty convincing win to Carlos. Spain won their semi final 3 rubbers to 2.

The Final will be played in Australia, & it is expected that the surface will be grass. It promises to be one of the Davis Cup's greatest finals.

------

Lleyton Hewitt, you can say whatever you like about his character, sportsmanship & oncourt demeanour, but there is no question that he is an absolute champion, & yesterday's performance concurred this. He is a great competitor, & that never-say-die attitude just shows you that you can achieve just about anything if you have the determination & enthusiasm to inspire to greater heights. It almost looked that he was down & out when Roger came out to serve for the match in the 3rd set. Lleyton then managed to break his serve to keep the match alive (i.e. back on serve) & went on to win the tiebreak. This was the turning point of the match. The instant Lleyton got back on serve in the 3rd set, he knew that anything could eventuate, & he went on to win in spectacular fashion.

Why did Todd retire Knightsgal :?:

How good is this going to be :D
I don't normally get that excited about tennis but there is something about the Davis Cup.

You gotta love Lleyton, I've cheered for the guy his whole career and I love the way he shows his passion for competition. :D

Todd retired cos it was a dead rubber and he hasnt played singles for over a year. It is a shame the ITF wont let someone in the training squad play, like Todd Reid, give them some experience.

This 5th rubber was hilarious. Todd played 4 points and turned around to the crowd and said he was buggered. When he was serving he served a fault into the net and someone yelled "Higher Todd" to which he replied "Geez, you could take Fitzy's job". Michel did a one-handed serve, Rosset and Arthurs came out for a point of doubles, Michel was doing many lobs and drop shots. The best moment by far was when one of Michel's lobs went out of the court and Rosset headed it back in. It was a great match to watch cos it was so funny.
