NFT - the Amazing Race, how disappointing!

Does anyone else watch the Amazing Race? I was very disappointed by last night's episode - I wanted David and Jeff to win! (because Jon and Kelly are very bitchy, and Chip and Reichen were a bit bitchy too and also too vocal about their being gay and proving a point).

It was also disappointing because there wasn't a great race to the finish, for a couple of reasons. Firstly making the right decision about flights to get from Cairns to Hawaii had a massive bearing on the outcome. And secondly there weren't any tasks to do once they reached America (I think) so it was simply a case of finding a cab driver who knew his stuff and paying him heaps to make him drive faster!

The end was particularly crap for poor David and Jeff who were so far behind at the end, that they didn't even get to finish - instead finding out the results in pouring rain, in the dark, at a route marker : (

yeah i actually wanted kelly and Jon to win, they were huge bitches, but bloody funny to watch. absolute classic when they had to break the boards in south korea and jon just told kelly to visulaise the boards were his face, so kelly goes on to almost break her hand smashing the boards so hard. lol your right about chip and reichen, for people who said they didnt want to be categorised as feminine gays they brought a whole heap of attention to just that.

I wanted Jon and Kelly to win.

Chip was an asshole.

Not any tasks in the US, just solving the clue in the baseball stadium.

The only problem with the show is the airport equaliser. A team can have a big lead, but whislt waiting for a plane everyone else catches up.

A rule should be brought for when all teams must go to the same airport (if no airport is specified and they go to different ones it won't work of course but that rarely happens they usually have to go to one airport). Team A reaches airport 5 mins before Team B. When Team B reaches their final destination they must wait 5 minutes at the airport door before leaving.

I kept forgetting it was on and only started watching Tuesday last week.

Yeah it is bad isn't it. Equally as bad is the situation where the first task for a leg is to go somewhere that doesn't open till say 8am. This really sucks for the team that gets the "advantage" of leaving first, say at 2am. Just means they have to wait and in the meantime the other teams catch up.

And yeah Chip was an asshole. And a terrible driver! Driving the off road vehicle into a bush and then later veering off the road into a ditch! What an idiot.

Samwise - the board breaking incident with Kelly and Jon was hilarious

Yeah I watch it... I've only ever missed the very first episode in the first series (didn't know abuot it until the 2nd week)... I love it.

Anyway, I was dissappointed in the last 2 legs because the clowns weren't in it anymore (they had a great attitude about the race and towards their fellow contestants), and because there was no team I really 'hated' and didn't want to win (every other series one of the final 3 teams I have seriously not wanted to win). I found myself barracking for Kelly and Jon though (she was annoying, but I still liked them).

Anyhow, I was dissappointed for David and Jeff because that would be a crap way to finish the race. But that is what the race is about... one bad decision can cost you big time.

As for the airport equalisers and businesses hours of operation, there is no need to change that. It is part of the race. That is what happens in life.. you have to wait for planes and you can't go to most businesses at any time and expect them to be always open. Change them rules and you ruin the race... it's what makes it interesting, keeping teams close together and letting their decision making and map reading and other things be most important, and for them to do it under pressure. How they do it right now is pretty much spot on for an entertaining and thrilling show/competition to watch. And if it is unfair... well lets just say the contestants understand and accept the rules and playing conditions.

And they also just won an Emmy for the show....

Anyway... bring on the next one... I can't wait. Though Survivor starts next week... 8)

i love the fact that they have the airport equalizer. I think that game is luck, nothing more or less and the stops gets everyone on equal playing field again, if you think about it a team might get a huge lead for the whole show...how boring. I wanted jon and kelly to win, they were classic. when he was driving that dirt car in cairns i was nearly wetting myself with laughter. absolute classic.

Hated Flo from the last series.

*zack completes bike put together challenge--now on the bike ride*

"Zaaaaakkkk! I can't riidddeeeee anymooooooorrreee! Zaaaaaaaackkkkkkkkkkkkkk!"

Although I guess Zack deserved to win the $500k after putting up with that for the entire show.

Oh, I hated Flo too.

As for quotes, how about "Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccc, I'm tired. Carry my baaacckpaaaaaaaak Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccc!"

The poor guy seemed to be carrying her backpack for half of the race!

They didn't go to Sydney this year. Brisbane->Moolooba then Cairns (and a surrounding area)

One group just caught a flight from Cairns->Sydney in their ploy to get to Hawaii the quickest. It didn't work.

I absolutely love the amazing race and to an extent I don't mind the airport equaliser but I hate the hours of operation thing, thats totally unfair, I think the race should be a proper race, none of this hours of operation 6am-6pm crap to make the race more competitive, if a team is more competent they should be rewarded. I actually wouldnt mind seeing a none elimination type race with just pitt stops, and no hours of peration equalisers so its becomes more a race of skill than pot luck.
I was rooting for David and Jeff and I thought they'd win because if their physical superiority, but I guess one bad decision cost them a shot at it. I'm was just thinking afterwards, did Kelly and Jon use their fast forward in the race? I know they wanted to go for it in the Malaysian leg but they didnt get a chance to use it, I can't recall them using it in any other leg. As for Kelly and Jon, my favourite quote from Jon is still "kelly go F**K yourself", when he said that I couldn't stop laughing.

I'm hooked on the Amazing Race too aqua_duck.

Does anyone know if a 5th show will be made, and whether or not Channel 7 will show it?

Actually I'm struggling to figure out how the cost of running the Amazing race can be justified - surely the total cost is astronomical!

The airport equaliser is nessesary, otherwise going into the final leg one team could possibly be 48 hours ahead, that would make for sh*t viewing

If they are going to have that, they may as well all leave the hotel at the same time instead of groups leaving depending on how long after other teams they got to the last point.

No they didn't use a fast forward, nor did Al and Jon (the clowns). They basically never had a chance to when they needed it (someone else always took it first). As for my fav quote, it would have to be when Kelly said, ""We came to one very sad conclusion today, that we cannot have children, because we do not want them to inherit our stupidity."

As of yet, they haven't renewed the series for a 5th one, however they are currently taking applications for the next edition of The Amazing Race, which is seen as a very good sign. They are looking at filiming it in January. So as long as they do go ahead with it, it'll be a while before we see it, and one can only hope that ch 7 shows it or that another station picks it up.

As for the costs, I agree. It would cost an absolute fortune. Just the costs of the flights alone would be bad enough, but then there are also the bookings for flights that never end up being used (i.e. when they book one flight, then end up booking another one cos it'll be quicker). But CBS does have a lot of money I suppose...
