I've been sick this week. Very sick. Too sick to even get online and make a few posts in here.
Today is the first day since Tuesday afternoon that my temperature has been below 38 degrees and without the headache that the fever causes.
The reason for my illness - Severe Tonsilitis and Toxic Infection.
Somewhere over the long weekend, possibly before, I came in contact with someone who also had a tonsil infection. Do you know how tonsilitis is spread?? I'll tell you... Saliva. Swapping spit. A few possibilites for me here...
a) Kissing - Meeting a nice lady at the Great Northern Hotel over a drink or two, escalating to a passionate snog.
b) Drinking - Sharing spit soaked drink bottles at footy training in the exhausting heat on Thursday evening before the electrical storm.
c) Tasting the Town - Walking around Newcastle, drunk as a skunk, on Saturday night licking every possible object my tongue could reach.
The answer... b) I've been shafted (thanks Ian Reuben from the footy show dvd)
How do I know that it's b)??? Because a) and c) just didn't happen. As much as I like to say a) was true, I didn't actually go out last weekend. And c)... Well, I'm not much of a drinker and not that stupid.
Needless to say, I've been literally bed ridden, apart from two doctors visits since Tuesday afternoon, culminating in a lot of pain and frustration.
The verdict - Well I'm on strong antibiotics and penicillan injections to fight the poison in my blood. If my tonsils don't react to the medicine by Saturday, I'm off to hospital to have them cut out.
Yesterday morning I was thinking "Bring on the Knife" as my tonsils swelled so much that my throat almost closed entirely - very dangerous for obvious reasons. But now the penicillan and antibiotics seem to be working and the swelling has subsided a bit, and I can stand and walk without feeling like I'm on the Gravatron. I can't talk yet, and it still brings tears to my eyes when I try to swallow something. But I am getting better (hoorah).
On the positive side of all this, I found out from my blood test that the doctor conducted, that my cholesterol reading was 3.1, which is well below average
