Oh my god, how hot is it right now? It has been 38.5C in our kitchen since 6pm. My bedroom is boiling, even with the fan at high. Saw on the news it was still 31C at 6.30pm and it was a record hot day for March.

Had the worst train trip home. I was late, and stuck in an non air conditioned train. And it was a country train, usually their air conditioning is beautiful. Got off the train and got on the bus to go home. The bus waited for one train, and it was so hot in that bus, then the driver said we were going to wait for yet another late train. At this point after being in a train with no air conditioning for around an hour and a half, for a trip that usually takes an hour and 10 mins, I hopped out of the bus. He didn't even offer me my fare back...I was too hot and bothered to ask for it. Got in the taxi and lapped up the air conditioning. Came home, had a cold shower and I'm still really hot.

Drove home from work with the air con. on high. Walked into the house with the air con. that had been going all day. 23 degrees inside at the moment (has been all day).

Is it still hot outside? :D

After being indoors all day I got a rude shock when I stepped out of my office at 4:30! Then hopped on an old (non-airconditioned) State Transit bus.

Risa, those country trains have extremely cold air conditioning! I used to take the train up to Newcastle (from Sydney) almost every weekend when I was in first year uni. Even in summer I had to make sure I took a jumper with me!!!

I take a jacket with me as well, but after today I'd rather that than the air con not working. The country trains are better than the tangaras. I was on those while working at North Sydney and they are absolutely freezing all year round.

Well, today at work, I sat there with my heater on my feet.. why? Cause my office is bloody COLD!

I walked outside for lunch and almost died cause I didn't expect it to be that hot!

But when I left work at 5 i wanted to die. The little energy that I did have (almost on empty, due to the fact i'm on a diet which consists of a lot of rice and not much else, and for the record not my own choice either) was gone by the time I walked from Castlereigh Street to Museum station (which is only across the road!)

I feel like dying right about now!

Hope your heatwave isn't as bad as what QLD had recently.

For weeks it was over 40+ C day & night.

Hmm...can I die now? LOL. I have no idea how I will sleep when it is 30C at 9pm...very unusual.

I'd say I'll be struggling by 10.30pm if it's still this warm..

Hay, a fellow coastie. You can come and crash on my lounge. It's lovely in here. I'll even give you a lift to work tomorrow.

Had to inspect my new investment house in Broadmeadow and upstairs I was nearly choking in the heat. Me thinks I'll be installing an air-conditioner in there soon.

Drove back to Sydney in a nice 16 degrees in the car.

Played tennis tonight and with no wind, it was dam hot on the court. Bugs everywhere too.

If it's this hot tomorrow, I'm going to the beach.

It sure was a hot day. I spent it at Uni and there was a blackout for ages so we had NO AIR CON! That's bad enough but there's no fans in the rooms, plus most of the windows were permanently locked because they're not allowed to be opened when the air con is on blah blah. Too bad for us on days like today when there's a heat wave and there is no air con! I've never been in such a stuffy room. I can't believe I didn't just go home! But skipping class would look really bad in Week 2 ... Then I drove home without air con and I burnt my hands on the steering wheel coz it had been subject to the heat all day hehe what a fun day, and I get to do it all over again tomorrow. Well there's my rambling on the topic.

Much cooler temperatures forecast for today.

I'm hoping it's hot again by the weekend though. Keen to go to the beach - time's running out before autumn truly arrives.

Oh, and here's an smh article for anyone who's interested :D

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Even mad dogs stayed inside

March 10, 2004

Hot on the heels of the weekend's torrential rain, Sydney sweltered yesterday in one of the hottest March days on record.

In a quirky one for the record books, the inner-city recorded its second-highest March temperature, with the mercury peaking at 39.3 degrees, beaten only by 39.8 degrees recorded on the same day in 1983, a Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said.

Elsewhere in Sydney, temperatures reached 40 at Mascot, 39 at Penrith and 38 at Liverpool, more than 10 degrees above the average maximum for March.

An EnergyAustralia spokesman said electricity demand was the highest of the summer and the second-highest on record, as air-conditioners strained the grid.

The load peaked at 5051 megawatts, more than 1200 megawatts higher than January 22, the previous high for the summer.

"There were a few problems with the system up in the Central Coast as the unseasonally hot weather forced people indoors to turn on their air-conditioners, but in Sydney the system coped very well," the spokesman said.

The stifling heat did not create any extra work for NSW Ambulance officials, a spokeswoman said. "Maybe more people were staying indoors in the cool, but we didn't have anymore jobs than we usually deal [with], which was something of a surprise."

Weather experts said the unexpected temperature spike in Sydney had been caused by a cold front from Victoria that had dragged hot north-westerly inland winds across NSW.

But respite was expected today, with Sydney temperatures forecast to peak at 23. Isolated showers were also expected along the coast later in the day.

Had to go to soccer training in that heat last night at 6.00pm.

Barely even noticed the heat.

Walked outside Drop Bear Cafe at 11:30pm after dinner though, and noticed it then. It was still something like 28 degrees. Could feel the Southerly starting to wind up though.

Nice Southerly change came through at about 12:30am this morning making things a bit cooler.
For all you Brisbanites, it's due in Qld this afternoon according to the people that allegedly know about these things.

I'm beginning to wonder what a line-graph of the daily maximum temperatures would look like. Stinking hot about three weeks or so back, then we had a week of cooler, wetter conditions. I thought: "wow, that's a pretty rapid change from summer to autumn".

It seems summer hasn't finished, despite the calendar saying it has - perhaps it's time for a regular weather segement on this forum, given all these topics about weather.

I don't mind the heat. We live in Australia - you have to expect it. I remember when I was a teenager, during school holidays or on the weekends, I'd go down to the park with mates and kick the ball around, or have a bowl and bat in the nets, or play a bit of basketball in the middle of summer when it was stinkin hot... didn't bother me... and I'd do the same now...

I came home from work today sick. Left around 11am and came home and slept. It was freezing in the train this morning, started sneezing and during the day I got progressively worse. Should go in tomorrow, feeling a bit better.

It was a bastard of a hot day today. I work next to a 270deg + oven. I thought i was going to melt! Dead set the huminity up here is bad enough but the searing heat is pathetic.

Ames, bugger going to UNI. Your carpark there is bad enough at the best of times and that's when you don't have to wait for someone to leave before you even get a park!

I hope energex sorts out their problems soon. It bull what the poor workers have to go through. 4 or 5 weeks worth of work in less then 48 hours is crap. I suppose they are better of then those working for westpower though!
