OK, may as well start it off here.... Not one game close enough to trouble the new points system of 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, and 1 point for a narrow loss by 12 or less.

Northern Rail Cup 2007 – Weekend One (9-11 February) results:
(mostly taken off sky sports, hoping they can all be trusted...)

Barrow Raiders 44 V 4 Blackpool Panthers
Celtic Crusaders 6 V 56 Widnes Vikings
Doncaster Lakers 6 V 30 Castleford Tigers
Swinton Lions 38 V 20 Hunslet Hawks
Keighley Cougars 18 V 44 Halifax R.L.F.C.
Gateshead Thunder 12 V 58 York City Knights
Batley Bulldogs 6 V 49 Dewsbury Rams
Oldham 8 V 24 Rochdale Hornets
Workington Town 18 V 44 Whitehaven
London Skolars 8 V 52 Leigh Centurions
Featherstone Rovers 54 V 22 Sheffield Eagles
Hemel Stags 6 V 42 Bramley Buffaloes
Dewsbury Celtic 12 V 42 Warrington Wizards

Featherstone will be happy getting a win up over higher league rivals. Played over six rounds, not sure of how the quarter finals are decided, perhaps top two teams in groups 1-6, top team from conference group 7, and the best three remaining placed teams again?

Apparently *ldham were very ordinary against Hornets but there was a half decent turn out at Borrowed Park of 1100. So there looks to be some life left in *ldham.
Hornets have lots of improvement left im them.

Great win for the Buffs too!

You have been reading the wrong reports HPH, with a bit more composure on finishing and with a regular goalkicker on the park it could have been a different story. 11 new players making debuts and only 1 recognised half back on the park it was a pretty good start against a side with 1st div playoff aspirations. Your pack got a bit of a touch up on the day especialy from Said Tamghard and Geno Costin, on top of the tonking you took from Hunslet you have a lot more to worry about than the Roughyeds, as for the crowd we all know that you at Rockdull hairnets would cream yourselves for numbers like that, if you had a season like we had last year your numbers would be more like 110 than 1100:lol:.

No worries.

Under Super League are two divisions, called National League One and Two. At the moment there is still promotion and relegation between all these divisions - last year Castleford went down from Super League and Hull KR went up.

The National League seasons are shorter than Super League, so in their pre-season (before Easter) the teams play in the opening stages of this Cup compteition. Some teams from what is now the Rugby League (Summer) Conference also join them.

After these six weeks of home and away games in groups, the top two teams in most of the pools, plus the top one in the conference pool and the next three best teams stay in the Cup. The Round of 16, then the quarter finals, semi finals and finals are spaced out during the National League season proper, with teams having a weekend off while these games are played.

This is not to be confused with the Challenge Cup, which also features National League teams from Round Three onwards, but Super League teams as well. This is the sixth year of the National Cup, last year Leigh Centurions beat Hull Kingston Rovers to win it. The team that ends up promoted to Super League at the end of the season has always been either the winner or runner up in this cup each year it has been played.

Thanks this helps heaps. So it is pretty much a Club Challenge without the Super League teams. Is this correct???

Sorry WD82, missed your comment. Yes, thats basically correct, without most of the 54 amateur teams that start the Challenge Cup too.

Northern Rail Cup 2007 – Weekend Five (15-17 March) results:

Barrow Raiders 6 – 16 Whitehaven
Sheffield Eagles 6 – 44 Castleford Tigers
Dewsbury Celtic 44 – 22 Warrington Wizards
Bramley 36 – 8 Hemel
Celtic Crusaders 22 – 14 Leigh Centurions
Doncaster Lakers 18 – 18 Featherstone Rovers
Halifax 30 – 8 Gateshead Thunder
Keighley Cougars 12 – 26 York City Knights
London Skolars 0 – 66 Widnes Vikings
Oldham 8 – 32 Dewsbury Rams
Rochdale Hornets 42 – 10 Swinton Lions
Workington Town 28 – 20 Blackpool
Hunslet Hawks 4 – 32 Batley Bulldogs

Definitely through to the qualifying round of sixteen so far are:
  • Castleford (NL1)
  • Halifax (NL1)
  • Bramley (RLC)
  • Whitehaven (NL1)
  • Dewsbury (NL1)
  • Rochdale (NL1)
  • Widnes (NL1)
  • York (NL2)
  • Celctic Crusaders (NL2)
  • Swinton Lions (NL2)

The following six spots in the qualifying round are still open to be decided next week:
  • 2nd place in Group One (Featherstone  or Doncaster)
  • 2nd place in Group Three (Hunslet  or Batley, the one point for a close loss and points differential may come into play)
  • 2nd place in Group Five (Barrow or Workington Town)
  • Next best 3 place-getters (Barrow/Workington Town, Leigh, Warrington Wizards, Featherstone/Doncaster, Hunslet/Batley and Hemel Stags all technically still in contention)

So the games where the result will matter next weekend are:
  • Sheffield v Featherstone
  • Castleford v Doncaster
  • Dewsbury Rams v Hunslet
  • Batley v Rochdale
  • Blackpool v Barrow
  • Whitehaven v Workington Town
  • Leigh v London Skolars
  • Warrington Wizards v Bramley
  • Dewsbury Celtic v Hemel

Some good performances by lower division teams throughout this stage... Featherstone and Celtic Crsuaders out-performing NL1 sides. Some reasons to worry perhaps for Sheffield, Doncater and Leigh?
