excuse my ignorance but what is +6.5 or -20.5 mean bettingwise?

That's the line, or the "start" given or conceded by each team.

In my case, Souths were "given" 6 and a half points for the Titans match. Which means if they lost by six or less, I won the bet.

With the -20.5, Melbourne had to win by 21 points or more to win the bet.
