NRL break salary Cap

It may be true, if Andrew Johns stays with league it could be the NRL breaking the Cap in helping the Knights retain, Joey, I believe if he wants to go let him go, it will not hurt the Sharks, and where was the NRL when we wanted Mat Rogers know where, this looks like one rule for one and another rule for us, protecting the pro ARL clubs, and ditching the old Super League Clubs

The NRL should have the best 25 players in a squad where they get extra money. f**k union. I don't care if the Knights break the cap to keep a player they have developed into one of the best ever so he doesn't go to Union.

It would have been nice for some help with Rat but meh. That was a few years ago now

I agree. Maybe not top 25, but certainly the elite of the game.

At the current time I would class Johns and Lockyer as worthy of such status. Everyone else can be replaced with little fuss. These two, I think, can't be lost. Johns is on a downward slide but he remains a great player if he's on the paddock and his marketability is second to none. Lockyer on the otherhand is simply the best player in the world in either code.

A top 25 players? Can you tell me DEFINITIVELY who those 25 would be? Who would decide the top 25? Would it be voted by coaches or would the NRL decide and base it on the usual bias whereby the entire 25 is made up of 10 Roosters, 8 Dragons, 5 Knights, 1 Bronco and 1 Panther?

By having a top 25 players or top 2 this is wrong, if the go the go, they can be replaced, the game goes on, but not when you help one club over another, and with Rat, the NRL could have helped us get him back for 2005, but no help forthcoming as usual

So Channel Nine offering him a media deal is breaking the cap? I fail to see how

Well let's see
TCN 9's NBN sponsor the Knights
They therefore have a direct interest

That's just the start of it
It's all dodgy, why couldnt we pay Mat Rogers a token payment of $100K and then get LG to pay him $400,000 a year after he retires?

It's a very dodgy way around the cap, it's unethical and it is setting a very bad precedent.

Knights sponsorship
Major sponsor includes NBN

How is that NOT a salary cap rort?

Or does it not matter if the player involved goes surfing with the NRL CEO??

It would be huge breach of the NRLS own cap and the bulldogs would have a huge damages case lined up ready to fire off at this minute.

The NRL should do like the ACB and have a list of "contracted" players each season, who they believe are of rep-standard, or potential rep-standard.
They should then be paid by the NRL over and above what their clubs are paying them.

For clubs to be penalised for developing their own players to such high levels is ludicrous
