I know a few in here have had interest in the past about the possibility of a video game, according to 'leaguerules' on the WORL forums, it is on the way...

"I recently sent ameesage to the nrl via the NRL website about a computer game and the central coast team. will i got a reply aboutr the computer game which is pretty good
this is the reply
Dear KB, The NRL have recently appointed a company to develop, manufacture and sell a Rugby League interactive game. The development has commenced however it will take some time to produce. Once ready it will be available at most retail stores. Thankyou for your inquiry. Kind regards, Scott Munn Licensing Manager National Rugby League sounds good what do u think and how long does it take to make a good game"
Interesting to see how true it is, although it sounds quite genuine, he even quoted (im assuming its a male loL) a mans name...Im off to send an email now, to see if i can confirm the story....
cheers,
MFC.

I just got this reply off the NRL....interesting:

Dear Shane
The National Rugby League also places a high value on ensuring our
supporters have available an interactive game. We have been speaking with
many companies regarding this and are very close to finalising an agreement
with a large manufacturer to produce a game.
Once finalised we look forward to ensuring a high quality and accessible
game is available to all of the games followers.
Thankyou for taking the time to send through your questions on Rugby League.
Kind regards,
Vicki

I hope it is an improvement on ET's Rugby League. Then again, I used to enjoy that game but it was frustrating losing the scrums all the time.

ETs Rugby League was great. Once I worked it out, I had St George beating Brisbane 120 - nil.
Parramatta were a little better. St George could only beat them by 80 - nil.
The actual key was to find touch, force a scrum, and then put a push on from 10 m out.
It's amazing how many tries Noel Goldthorpe scored!
It did become a little boring after a bit...

The same thing happened with AB's Cricket. I found that if I pitched the ball next to the umpires hat and swung it in then the batsmen would never hit it and 4 times out of they'd get bowled.

Steve Waugh was going on rampages taking home match figures of 20/0 (that's wickets first).

Cheers.

Ah....video game memories, gotta love them. Ets rugby league had great gameplay. Did anyone try it on level 7?? That was quite a challenge, although if u passed it through enough players hands a try was always on the cards. We used to play it so that you couldn't pass once you had been hit in a tackle. It made the game much more fun ;)
I always found it a struggle whenever the ref started sending players off. I remember selecting offside players who would run into the play ball and tackle the player before he got it.....very funny, especially when you got sent off for it
Paul Doolan was always a prolific tryscorer in the game. Similar to goldthorpe eh willow? A shocking player, but always had more skill in the game then in real life. Winning the scrums was a matter of timing, although many a keyboard found a home in the rubbish bin through several years of constant playing lol

I remember nearly wetting my pants upon purchase of ARL'96 (this was in 1998 - got it cheap). After about the first ten games, it did get a bit tedious. All you had to do was create the overlap and then score the try. Also, we didn't have a joystick in the house so the Cowboys-Broncos derbies my brother and I dreamed of never eventated (athough I have just planning on scoring drop goals all the time to get the ball back)

I wouldn't mind a game where you are actually the CEO of a club, with respononsibilities for signing players, bringing players through the juniors, signing coaches and staff, appointing captains, expanding/moving stadiums etc. Perhaps one of us could have a go at writing one? We could even put a special NRL spin on it with offers of funding from News Ltd, Leagues Clubs going broke, fan disenchantment, offers to merge etc......it would be great!

Might put some more ideas on paper!

Cheers

Yeah, i agree Bomber....i got it for $30 and i was over the moon. After the first 5 games, it had deterioated into a boring and repetitive experience. The gameplay was shocking, ETs rugby league put it to shame. I just hope that the producers of this game have the vision to put heaps of options in. Let us remember the game will probably end up on the playstation 2, a console with at least 10 times the power and potential of the mega drive, which it first came out on.
I think the game should take a gran turismo feel. You could have the 'arcade mode', where you just fiddle with a few options and then off you go. On the other CD, you could have the full on season mode, where you can control a team, buy players, sell players, market your team and in general do everything a club would do. Perhaps a bit of a SimCity feel to it would go down quite well...But gameplay is number 1 priority, no gameplay = crap game....
Can't wait for it!

The CEO style of game is to my liking, don't get me wrong! I'd love to see a game where you play matches, seasons, etc, surely there is a market for both. The AFL have had a game for several years available on PC.

There's nothing more infuriating than to see yet another football (Soccer) Game on the market. There are obviously talented games designers out there who lack any imagination.

I think the Manager games always have more life to them, that the arcade versions....

I have gone through the soccer, rugby, golf & ice hockey games (PS2) in the last few months. I have Football (soccer) Manager 2000, i have had that for over a year & can still play when i am bored....

I think that a RL Manager game, that involved the some lower comps like the Metro Cup & then NSWRL, QRL, NZRL& NRL, would be awesome, you would need to have a tier system, where Metro was the lowest & NRL was the highest..... So you could start with someone like Dubbo, and take them through from the lower divisions all the way to the NRL..... Build them a stadium, trade players, sponsorship rights......

There is also a very good F1 Manager game, which has the same sort of playability.

Tigger have you got any info on the F1 game? I have mastered and own every psgynosispsx game bar the new one on psx2 (mastered it just don't own it) and am bored, a manager style game would be great especially for forumla one where there is so much that goes on behind the scenes and the team bosses have so much responsibility.

Cheers
