NRL on Melbourne FTA is a joke

Yes we have an NRL team in Melbourne (doing very well I might add) but the NRL has failed to grow the game in Victoria due to a lack of strategy and investment beyond the NRL club. It takes both a top down and a bottom up investment plan if you really want to establish a game in new territory.

Maybe you could also consider the games needs rather than the broadcasters wants? Do you really think AFL brought in the Suns and Giants because TV wanted them or asked for them or even where asked about them beyond the added value of a ninth game content? Since 1997 the top level of the game has basically been run for the benefit of TV companies first and foremost. I had really hoped when we got our independence back that we would have seen change to that but no, we continue to just respond and react to Ch9 and New Ltd rather than strategically planning for our own benefit and future. Sht every time our exec leader stands up to them they force them to be sacked, We cant expand and grow the game because tv aren't interested (WTF?) we cant support clubs to grow their revenue bases from attendance and membership and corporate sales because TV continues to dictate sht KO times for fans. The game is littered with TV running the game even today. Sure lets move the GF to suit TV, sure lets mess around with Origin to suit TV, sure lets play on a Thurs and 6pm Fri, Sure lets not show the game on primary channels nationally, sure lets not show clubs into growing markets every week on FTA, sure lets not have FTA games on Saturday night handing AFL a massive ratings advantage, sure lets not have simucast games so more can be played when fans want to attend, sure lets just take it on the chin when our TV partners publicly bag us off ( and even worse agree with them!) and so it goes on.

At the moment the game relies heavily on the people paying them Billions - rightly or wrongly . I think rightly!

The game is expanding ,and has been since 1908, maybe just not in the direction you would like it to.

And? I see our competitors get paid more billions yet haven't given up half of what we have had to and dont use it as an excuse to not expand. Where do you see the game expanding?
In Vic Storm are doing a great job at the top level but below that there is only very slow growth, WA has had good growth in amateurs last few years but plateuing now hope of expansion has disappeared and still a long way off the 10k registered players of the early 90's, Adelaide nothing, NT ltd, Tassie gone backwards, heartlands all I keep hearing is how the game is dying in the bush and how AFL is taking over Sydney.
Women's game tick. Improvement for PI internationals from a very low bar tick.
Where else?

As said there is probably not enough spent on Victoria, while the AFL spend millions+ on Sydnery. But the Storm still rate every bit as well as the Swans.

I don't care about what the broadcasters want. It's just naive to think they're going to sign a massive cheque over to the ARLC without wanting something in return. RL doesn't have friends in high places because it's viewed as a working class man's game. Snobby business people like to associate with their own kind, and we aren't it. Fumbleball and onionball are in bed with the bastards and there's nothing we can do about it.

The game doesn't need teams in Adelaide and Perth. You just want them to put one in Perth because you live there. Brisbane 2 and Brisbane 3, plus NZ 2 and in the long term, NZ 3, are crucial to the game as they will strengthen Origin and Test football. Money and more players can be gained by providing Brisbane and NZ with local derbies and giving more locals the chance to earn a living playing football from their home city. Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will never offer any of that.

In Melbourne, NRL ratings were up 39% to an average of 17,000, including an average of 37,000 for games involving the Storm.

Swans rated 39k, GWS 34k this year in Sydney.
Is that for this year?

On 14 August you said it was 17k.

Melbourne rated 33k on GEM last night, 32k Sunday two weeks ago. Average NRL rating for Melbourne is about 17k, and 11k for games not involving Melbourne.

The game needs to be national to A) grow and B) attract increased revenue, Govt support etc
The game doesn't need Perth and Adelaide (or Melbourne in your argument) if it wants to remain where it is. But if you want to be bigger and better then you better be moving, especially if your main competitor is! Not many businesses survive long term by staying stagnant, ask Blockbusters!
Adding more Brisbane clubs doesn't grow the game, it just consolidates it.
NZ has great growth potential but that's not the ARLC's job.

You're not going to get much revenue out of Adelaide and Perth.

It's stupid to say new Brisbane clubs won't grow the game. Local derbies at Lang Park between Brisbane 1, 2, 3 and NQ will attract large money making attendances and draw increased television ratings. Ch9 know this and want Bris 2 for this very reason. Adelaide and Perth will not provide any of this, despite all of your bluster about the game needing to "grow" which is based on selective information.

You know that the ratings in Melbourne are poor, so you lump in the ratings the Storm draw in Brisbane and Sydney to cover it up. The fact they rate so well in Brisbane proves there's more to be gained from adding Brisbane 2 and 3 than shit teams in Adelaide and Perth that won't rate in Brisbane and Sydney. The Storm will go the same way as the Raiders when they're no longer finishing in the top 4 every year. Before you came into this country the Raiders were a big thing in Queensland. That's when they were strong like the Storm and had plenty of Queenslanders in their side. Once their success dried up, so did their support in Queensland.

Well you've just stuffed his continual whining about Melbourne TV audiences lol.
Tell me Mr Smarty Pants Who Cannot Spell, how many Melbournians were at The G watching the fumbleball when the Storm were playing on 9Gem?

Zero because of COVID-19?

Oh, I guess that explains why an extra 17k fumbleball fans who've adopted the Storm as their "2nd club" were watching them on 9Gem this year but weren't in 2019.

you know the AFL is on tv as well don't you? If they would have normally been at the G, then they would of now been watching that same game on tv - if they chose to watch the Storm as well then thats growth

You spin the 2nd team thing like its a bad thing, but the club itself has embraced it, if those fans are still putting money towards their second team in memberships and attendance than thats a win, if they are now somewhat interested in RL and weren't before - another win, if they now watch both AFL and NRL on tv at home around the kids then those kids are now getting exposure that they would not have before - win win win.

There is steady growth in Melbourne, it seems small and slow but if you look at it in a "every 10 years" perspective its good growth.

You cannot flick the channel over to 9Gem when you're at The G watching your AwFuL club fumble a ball around the cricket square and fist a behind through the posts.

AwFuL's Victorian clubs were playing in Queensland all throughout the week, so it's very likely many of their games didn't clash with the Storm.
