are there any new developments in regards to the nrl being shown in the uk on tv. i know setanta were looking into buying the rights, anythnig further?

how many people in the uk have setanta?

why did sky sports drop aussie rugby league in the first place? have they given any reasons for it? being the most popular rugby comp in the world, and the amount of interest from aussies, kiwis and also rugby league supporters in the uk i find it extremely surprising (and disapointing) that sky have dropped the rights. why cant we get a fair go over there? when i was in the uk i always caught nrl games at pubs on sky. i actually watched the nrl gf at an irish pub in rome that had sky hooked up. this is not good news for rl!

Rights are sold by the NRL, so Setanta's bid was better than Sky's.

Setanta's trying to grow in the UK, so at a guess I'd suggest they were in a position that they would have outbid anything that Sky put forward. By having the NRL, a fair few League fans will shell out the extra pounds for Setanta, although I think the NRL's going to lose a lot more viewers than they're counting on.

As far as I'm aware Sky dropped NRL coverage because of poor ratings. Setanta is available on the Freeview facility in the UK but is subscription despite the name of the viewing equipment. It's also available via sattelite.I don't know anyone who has or will be getting Setanta.

So they'll be dropping the abysmal Super 14 then??

Oh hang on.... I doubt that'll happen.

TBH.... I just thought Sky were outbid by Setanta.

If setanta show all NRL games.... it may tempt a few to get setanta..

With Setanta winning a share of the Premier League rights from 2007-2008 it's likely their penetration will sky rocket. Still not as high as Sky Sports but not the total graveyard for NRL that it looks at first glance. From their point of view the NRL is probably a smart cheap investment to complement the crown jewel Premier League rights. In the absence of SL rights it might allow them to attract subscriptions from some of the non-soccer following RL audience in northern England.

I used to have Sky but resented paying a high price to subsidise the wages of a set of overpaid, underworked, cossetted cheating prima donnas that pass themselves off as sportsmen . They wouldn't know sportsmanship if it bit them in the ar$e. To me soccer is the Emperor's new clothes of the sporting world. The media (having a vested interest) hype the game up to the heavens and the gullible public think they must be missing out on something if they don't watch the premiership. Having tried to watch soccer I struggle to stay awake. Few of them show much whole hearted committment the like of which we take for granted in RL.They believe they can do as they like off the field and still have some stupid chairman to pay their wages. It's a game for oafs and attracts the low life in the UK. That's if they can afford to attend a match. I believe it costs around £40 to watch a premiership match .This equates to $100A. What does it cost for the best seats at the Suncorp to watch the finest rugby team (of either code) in the world ?

Have you seen the prices to go see the NFL live?

You're right though, they're overpaid for what they are, and it's the public that pay down the line for it all.
