Yes but jumping from 8 games to sell straight into 10 might actually be detrimental to grabbing the actual value that it’s worth and can get. It’ll be easier and smarter to negotiate 9 games as that’s the next up above the current 8 games.
Game 10 will be worth more after the deal than before it. Might be the difference between $100m and $300m tbh.
when you consider that club 18 and 19 (if rumours are to be believed) have largely been accepted on the back of significant govt funding makes you wonder what criteria they will use for club 20.Reports say team 20 is 2030 which is in the next tv deals time frame
They may delay it until the next tv deal but it’s leaving money on the table from sky nz and misses out on the new stadium being completed in Chch and the boom in league in nz

Hope you’re right but the rich Queensland cup teams like the tigers and jets will be formidable opponents. It’ll be nz
Which bid is the question ?
Or perhaps a merger
What can the qld govt offer to trump it?
Rebuild Suncorp to 70k would be the only thing that might do it
Tbh I’m starting to think about teams 21 to 24 since the others seem locked in
Not really. Sky doesn’t pay a great deal in the grand scheme of things compared to 9 or Fox. Furthermore if the NRL were all in 100% on potential NZ2 there would be way more FTA Warriors games than what we currently get.Reports say team 20 is 2030 which is in the next tv deals time frame

So that was 70 years ago and the game was semi professional at best. And we ran 10 team comp with 3 grades in the 1950 when the population was 8 million
So?

So without the talent pool the competition gets watered down. And we ran 10 team comp with 3 grades in the 1950 when the population was 8 million
So?
Jets are brokeHope you’re right but the rich Queensland cup teams like the tigers and jets will be formidable opponents.
could a South Island NZ team match that?
Current broadcast deal ends in 2027.Reports say team 20 is 2030 which is in the next tv deals time frame

I strongly doubt Easts will merge with Jets. There’s a myriad of reasons why. I actually think QRL will block any potential merger regardless if it’s for NRL. I explained it in another post in the Brisbane 3 thread.Jets are broke
Think east’s will merge with them
One has cash other has the growth coridoor
Think Brisbane 3 will be team 21
Chch will also play at the stadium in Dunedin so two amazing stadia
Plus they help the nz tv deal
Australian tv pays 92% of the tv deal, and warriors rate amongst the lowest clubs. Short of SkyNZ offering silly money I dont think the business case for NZ2 stacks up as well as some on here think. Not really. Sky doesn’t pay a great deal in the grand scheme of things. I get the whole time zone thing. But considering their season in 2023 and their general support Warriors only get minimal games at prime time. Meaning broadcasters that pay the big bucks aren’t seeing the true value and if they’re not seeing a true value then I doubt Sky numbers compare anywhere near to Channel 9 or Fox/Kayo.
I’m all for NZ2 but the data we have seen isn’t supporting the case that the stakeholders have as much of an appetite for it as what some fans have.

Monetary aside they should absolutely be club 20, but Vlandys is money driven and unless the $'s are there its unlikely they get in.
They rate the lowest because they tend to constantly get the lousiest time slots. I feel like 6pm Friday, 3pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday aren’t exactly the time slots clubs hope for each season tbh.Australian tv pays 92% of the tv deal, and warriors rate amongst the lowest clubs. Plus AdelaideSo, if Bears and PNG are next.
Is there a pause before the next lot of teams that take us to 22?
Maybe NZ2, Bris3 and Fiji (Aus Gov support) fall into this slots over a period of time.
