NRL players to strike at RLWC

Apparently a story will be printed tomorrow that the NRL players will plan to strike at the RLWC if they haven't sorted the pay dispute...

Apparently they don't want to ruin a clubs chanceso of making the finals during a round of the NRL competition, so will strike during the RLWC.

Interesting to see how this plays out....pretty sure the NRL will buckle before hand

Some interesting points here.
The Tournament is a RLIF event not NRL/ARLC so what does the RLWC have to do with their pay dispute?

Mal's work in returning Test football to the pinnacle of the game - at least from a player point of view - seem to be going in 1 ear and out the other..

NRL players striking? Plenty of domestic players ready to fill those shoes/boots held by heritage players.

The players will have to take a good look at themselves and really think about the well being of the game for the future. The only way they will get paid more is if they as big as their Wallaby counterparts. International competition is the answer..

Here's the article. Typical News Corp fluff, no quotes, insiders, sources etc...

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...e/news-story/16dbae12d4f26815f46531085dcecfa8

STATE of Origin stars will consider boycotting this year’s World Cup as Maroons skipper Cameron Smith accused NRL chiefs Todd Greenberg and John Grant of mismanaging $192 million.

In an explosive build up to Origin I, Smith launched a savage attack on NRL hierarchy over claims players are being greedy in Collective Bargaining Agreement talks.

There are fears CBA talks could turn so toxic that a player strike is a possible outcome and Smith put NRL bosses on notice, saying: “We’ve got some ideas in place.”

Pressed on those plans, Smith would not elaborate, but The Courier-Mail can reveal the code’s elite have privately discussed refusing to play at the World Cup, which begins on October 26.

The notion of rugby league’s biggest stars, such as Smith and Maroons halfback Cooper Cronk, not playing for Australia would be a crushing blow for a code attempting to give the sport global credibility.

The plan has not been formalised with the Rugby League Players Association, but the mere discussion of a World Cup boycott underlines the frustration brewing among the playing group.

I agree with players getting a better deal but what they are asking for is a massive hike up on what they get now..and salaries have double, trebled in the last 8-10 years already..

I've not seen anything from the RLPA,though stand to be corrected cos I can't see every tweet/social media/press release, have they said anything about the recent spate for cocaine infractions by the players? Cos you can directly attributed that players becoming more wealthy.....and they want to get the players even more money?? That's dangerous

Greedy scum!!!

I said in a different threat that we should be putting the new money for players into rep payments and this just confirms it for me. They have no respect for the game and have no interest in growing it. They just want to get paid.

Make the Clubs salary the basic wage and put the real cash into rep payments, then see is they begin to care about the International game and see how much they will care about their own public image...

Mmmmm.......I just watched Rothfield on NRL 360 mention this issue.

Personally I think the word 'consider' has been stretched a bit.

That said ...if the players DID boycott the RLWC or even hold it to ransom before playing ..... well i would find it hard to attend an NRL game ever again.

Even with the talked about hike in wages they are still going to be at the very low end of professional sportsmen wages.
Cocaine isn't an NRL issue it's just a fact of life now. The media like to pretend otherwise but it's just reality.

Still if they strike for a World Cup they can f**k right off.
Most people would give their left nut to be able to represent their country at a sport.

WTF!? Let's assume for a minute, that the players are 100% in the right here.

Why can't they choose one round of the NRL season and all go on strike together!? Why does it have to be the World Cup!? 17 years of building up some credibility for international footy and these grubs just want to crap all over that. Clearly they have their club teams on a pedestal, then international matches and nations in the dog house.

Christ almighty it's not gonna happen, don't get your knickers in a twist over something at worst extremely unlikely at best completely fabricated by Rothfield and his mates

I hope you are right, but the fact that Aus played no internationals last off-season simply because Cam and his mates were 'tired', means I would not put this past them either.

What are you comparing that too? Soccer??

Tell you what, outside of team sports like Soccer, NFL, NBA, MLB & NHL which are world or American sports, with their massive revenues....NRL players are very well paid considering all the money is from a very small domestic market compared to the sports above.

If any of these spoilt, greedy NRL players actually boycott the World Cup they are dead to me and traitors to our game.

For starters the World Cup is separate to the NRL and the international game unloved by the NRL. So why would they care and why should it be a victim? It's a soft target for cowards.

We saw what greedy players did to our game in 1995. We can't allow it to happen again. Time to take a hardline.
