Look at what happened to them in the 08 GF, where - for all intents and purposes - they were not over the cap (due to Smith's suspension). They got destroyed 40 blot. Says it all, really.

that's the thing with the pathetic penalties the nrl gave them. they all kept their champ rings, the trophy stayed in melb through 2010 and they and their fans still celebrated in the aftermath of those games.

i would have had no problem with the nrl letting them keep their clayton's titles on paper and everything else if they had given penalties over a few years that offset how much they'd cheated (eg. if they had been 25% over the cap for three years then make them play a squad that is 25% under the cap for the next three years as well as starting them 8 games behind the rest of the league for that period).

i think this is one area the nrl need to set concrete rules for (if they haven't now done it) rather than the pathetic penalties they dish out to react to cheating. people might think it's a rare thing but given the magnitude of what the storm did and also the dogs not that long before them they need to sort it out i think.

mate NOBODY has been disciplined individually the club has been fined and had titles stripped but thats it

even waldron hasnt been fined a cent or spent one second in jail he was fired from the melbourne rebels but that was their own decision, nothing to do with the nrl

you would think it would be the first item on the agenda of the new commission with set penalties for breaches (including life bans) leading up to at the highest level expulsion of a team from the nrl

tell all the teams and players this are the rules now these are the penalties now you have no excuse for breaking them

While I accept the need for a team in Melbourne, the fact they knocked us out of 3 finals campaigns while cheating the cap, one of which took away a premiership from one of our all time greats, means i will never support them in any game they play, I will always be against them!

As for the NRL, as usual they were weak in their punishment and when I hear shit on 2sm from Hughes (cheat apologists because of the Bulldogs) that he thinks they should and will be reinstated, it makes my blood boil!
