NRL Salary Cap/CBA -2023 - 2027

Still no agreement it seems on the CBA and Salary cap for both NRL and NRLW.

The only thing I have seen is a proposed increase in the minimum wage from $77,500 to $150,000 and the Development contract increased from $60,000 to $125,000.

The Comp proper is supposed to start on March 3 2023 - pre-season games in February - NRLW players are more affected than NRL players are they cannot sign with any team - NRL players at least can sign train and trial contracts and then sign a full NRL Contract later on.

Anyone got any other info on where this is up to as it is December 13 2023 - 43 days into the new season.

It will be 11.5 million rising to 12.5 million over five years

clubs will get 5 million pa over this

players will get extra (and the clubs) if the arlc profit beats forecast (usually 40 mill)

A large percentage of the proposed increase in the cap will be taken up by increasing the minimum wage from $77k to $150k.

The majority of the members of the RLPA are going to be lower earners.

Of course they're not gonna sign unless they're taken care of.

The problem then comes they will stay in that tier.

At a club you have 1/3 of the cap taken up by the elite.

Players 21-30 on a squad are on not much, limits them getting out of that tier if they want too much

How many players would be on a wage less than $150k currently?
The Minimum wage for players 1 to 26 is $120,000 - Players 27 to 30 the minimum wage is $77,500 - Not sure how you can have 2 minimum wages though.

Development contract players are on a maximum of $60,000 and are not included under the cap as they are not in the 30 player squad

There would be players in the 1-26 squad positions who would be on the current minimum wage of $120,000

You aren't paying back up guys more than the minimum.

Those players train full time with the NRL squad as do Development Contract players - Depending on injuries and rep periods some of these lower paid players could play a fair bit of NRL.

If you are on $77,500 you most likely have external employment to fit around your footy commitments.

Paying these players a higher minimum wage would mean they could concentrate on their footy instead.

Ditto for the NRLW players where the minimum wage is $10k for the 3 month contracts they sign - have to fit full time employment around their footy commitments as well

The should get less.
Money should be going to helping the game in the country and areas not supported by NRL clubs.
The TV rights are ridiculous and due to it we get an expensive foxtel product with a bucket load of ads (one of the initial appealing features of foxtel was no ads). Its an artifical market that when compared with other sports is unrealistic.

Disagree

we are the number one sport on tv by a long long way

we get way unders compared to other sports and what we should get

as greedy as the clubs and players are there’s still enough left over for the arlc to make profits of 50 milllion

the way the ratings are growing it a real potential for the nrl to stream games directly and cut fox out of the picture one day

the higher the salary cap goes the more we can sign players like all blacks as well of course as keep our stars

we need to be investing in more nrl teams that’s the best way to grow the sport

My point it that we pay for it by our costs increasing.by more adverts and higher costs for foxtel, to cover the money they pay for sport. The number one sport in Australia is really a wee in the ocean in terms of world sport and they expect TV deals and player salaries that are not inline with the size of the "true" market.
Anyway we keep paying more for fox, watch more crap ads and simply smile and say the salary cap should increase.

How much has Foxtel's subscription fee increased in the last 2 decades?

The nrl doesn’t make profit, it makes a surplus, because it hasn’t spent all its revenue.
