Isn’t international or SOO selection supposed to be seen as an honour, rather than a money spinner?
A form of recognition, creating a legacy etc… I’d disband all payments for representative games. Players used to dream of growing up and wearing the green and gold, or maroon/sky blue, not the $30k they’d earn for doing so.
It’s all greed from the players and RLPA - the NRL and the independent commission are running the game as a business, to leave it as strong as possible for the future, the players are the ones with self-interest and a vested interest. They get paid handsomely for what they do - I’d be playing hard ball if I were PVL. If the players don’t like it, see you later, go try earn the same money elsewhere.
And if I were a club with a player currently on the books on a ridiculously over inflated salary, I’d be using the failure to meet media requirements as a way to sack em. f**k em!
Sure, and make the tickets free as well then? nrl want to run these internationals and earn money from them, why shouldnt players get a slice?

Are they not already handsomely paid enough? I’m happy for them to be paid, I don’t really think rep games should be freebies, they should get paid, and they do, handsomely…. The fact they’re whinging for more and trying to hold the game to ransom is a disgrace.
This whole profit sharing bollocks is ridiculous.

Yeh good, luck with that, “you’re well paid so why dont you do some more work for me for free? P” and back in the real world.……

they’re saying the international payments should not be in the current funding pool and should be additional based on how well internationals do. Given nrl can’t tell them what it will cost them and how much profit they will make from these games I don’t blame them for not agreeing to it.

There are two issues the RLPA are oblivious to

1 - Salary Cap cant jump by 30% in a season - it breaks the integrity of the competition

2 - SOO and Int RL player payments need to set appropriately. They cant be set initially by revenue %. As we need a regular IntRL schedule to grow revenue. We need to invest first, otherwise we go back to $2k match payments with no Kangaroos opposition

I think $30k a game is OTT, it’s should be $15k with the other $15k spilt into a future fund/grass roots for each state. I find it ironic Capewell mentions not wanting to play more games yet will play for QLD or the Kangaroos

Your 2nd point is my thoughts on the matter.

I heard Newton say on the radio yesterday the game hasn't had a long term CBA for 10 years so that is the aim.

Which I don't see as realistic.

He bangs on about GPS data being sold etc, I don't see that happening anytime soon,

Nor Internationals making money anytime soon.

Just get the deal done and put clauses in should either become issues in the future

You are never going to get equal games, coaches will manage workloads for the rep players to get them firing come finals time

Point 1 is easily solved by a ratchet for all current salaries for length of current contract.

30% increase to all current deals would maintain some integrity. Would stop players holding out for the new cap value before signing.

Far more integrity in the cap than Simple Jack and Ben Hunt's search for new deals this year.

Extending Int games and Origin doesn't effect all of the players in the league. Only a few gets selected for that.

on 2. that isnt their argument. What they are arguing is that there was an agreed player total funding pool. Then NRL has added all rep payments for any NRL and NRLW player for any country into that pool afterwards. Their argument is that it should be separate and be reviewed and adjusted depending on how internationals do in generating profit in the future.

Lets say there's 15 internationals (mens and womens a year) run by NRL. And players get $15k a game across the board for a 20 person squad. Thats $4.5mill a year out of the players funding.

Its arguable if the Australian RLC should be paying int football salaries at all beyond the Kangaroos, surely they should be paying the countries RL governing body who are taking part and the governing body be paying the players that play for that country?
What this does is give control of Int Rl (at least in Southern Hemi) to the NRL, they can dictate who plays and where. Its good to see Tonga at least have stuck two fingers up at that and independently organised a tour of England.

I would rather the nrl pay the island players than the island board members tbh. They are so corrupt, it's also the reason why the Tonga players left the Tongan board members.
